Exposed Ten Years Ago, Will I Test Positive Forever?

Ten years ago I was in a long term relationship with a guy who had hpv.  considering the number of times we had sex--both protected and not--I have no doubt that I've been exposed to the virus.  since then I've made sure to get pap every year and it's always come back normal.  yesterday however my new obygyn said that it was standard procedure for her to include an hpv test with paps of first time patients.

So my question is--assuming I actually was exposed to one of the high risk hpv strains ten years ago--is that test going to come back positive?  or is there a chance my immune system has suppressed the virus enough to make me negative?

Thanks everyone.

There's a cure out there, the pharmacy companies or fda won't fund it...they don't want use to be cured.

If he had HPV it must have been the low risk wart causing strain because there is no other way to tell if a male has HPV or not, just a visual examination of warts.

Let us know the results of your pap. There may be chances the virus has been suppressed enough to not show up or cause anymore trouble. Let us know and ask your OB/GYN the same question.
