colopscopy/PID

Has anyone ever had Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, PID, after a colposcopy? it wasn't caused by an STD--i know bc i was tested. but it was only one day after and i went to the ER and the doctor thought it seemed pretty bad, like it would have taken awhile. i just don't know how else you can get PID...
a colposcopy, by the way, is a biopsy to test for cervical cancer after you've been diagnosed with HPV.

I was just diagnosed with PID, and the symptoms didn't start till I had a colpo.  Since I had not been sexually active for three years before that and had been tested every year at my pap, active or not, for STDs I KNOW that I did not have an STD.  The only possible culprit was the colpo as I do not use douches because I tend to get yeast infections from them.  Thing is they did not have one of the sterile prepackaged instruments and used one of the metal ones in the office during the colpo...i'm thinking that the metal instrument was not entirely sterile.  i'm quite angry about this as I am suffering from a fairly bad infection and have been dealing with the urinary symptoms for weeks, and the pain for over a week.  Now I've got three days to respond to treatment or go in and get checked in for a stay in the hospital for stronger antibiotics through IV.  I wish I could prove what I heard them saying during that colposcopy.  no matter how embarrassing...it might be worth it for women to bring someone with them when having a procedure such as this, just to keep them honest and you safe.

wow that stinks with gyno who gave u colpo.....unusual with infections yes but if she is saying u got it from that then u must have!if a man has chronic prostatis or chronic urethritis he could give ut that bacteria and a std test wouldn't pick that up for it is bacterial infection on his part transferred to u!men can have these infections...the symptoms can wax and wane and they r lousy for the most part about going to the doctor especially when it concerns their genitals....it is a possibility but from all u've described it sounds like the colpo was the culprit!

apparently, sometimes a colposcopy can cause an infection because they take a chunk of skin out, and that can be infected although it's not usual. the woman gynecologist that i have gave me the colposcopy and i have her test me across the board for all stds every time that i get a new sexual partner,  and i request that they(the partner) get tested too
after the colposcopy, i ended up going to the ER because of a fever and pains, like they tell you to do...that's where they diagnosed me with PID. they tested me tons to find out the source of the problem--for anything that would cause PID, and tons of other exams. he did say, though, that maybe some women are more susceptible to this infection when they're close to their period, and that i seemed really bad but it might just be because i was approaching my period and hadn't had it in a while (I'm irregular unless i'm on the pill). My regular gynecologist, when i saw her, just said that had never happened before--that a patient had gotten infected when she gave them a colp...i know she "ran out" of vinegar that day and i had one of my own friends buy a sealed bottle to do it because i was not going to accept waiting there for hours and taking the day off work just to go home because she hadn't been adequately prepared with something available at any local store. the PID--i guess it was obvious, so i don't know if i had it or what already, but i just had the colposcopy the day before and lots of tests and stuff, so it would have been very unusual if she hadn't noticed it before.  and she doesn't want to pursue the issue, she just tells me that i have "so many questions" and nothing to worry about, so that's why the ER doctor surprised me. my actual doctor...she didn't even tell me the results of the HPV test until weeks after she received them. so, obviously i have changed doctors since this is all over. but i will tell my partner that he needs to get checked out for my sake, and i'll get re-checked by other doctors. recently i was having mysterious pains, so i was wondering about this...but they've seemed to go away. so i'll have a second doctor tell me this who's interested in helping me out. i know my gynecologist seems stubborn and embarrassed, since she really messed up by being extremely unprofessional and unprepared, and i will have this new doctor test me for everything.
but from what you're saying...wouldn't the STD tests pick up the bacterial infection transferred by a partner? because i have them obsessively, but that's the first thing they tested for when they diagnosed me with PID.
thanks

what does the doctor say that did the colp?u could have had a partner who had a history of chlaymidia syphilis or gonorrhea newly treated that could have given u this....he could have had many partners in comparison to ur few......men can harbor urethritis and prostatis let it go untreated and transfer their bacterial infection 2 u!

and that's why it's such a mystery....i have never had any STDs other than HPV, never done any douching, not had many sexual partners...that's why the doctor figured the infection was caused by a colposcopy, which is what the doctor said. no stds. duh.

yeah, i see you answered. and i tried posting the question in the place you suggested and it routed me right back here. it's related to hpv bc the PID first occured right after a colposcopy. other than that, i dont need to post in the forums for pregnancy and whatnot. so i'll try to delete the postings and use...google to find the answers like you said.

I just googled PID causes and went in2 the CDC site and it stated that chalymydial infections, multiple sex partners too much doucheing and having an IUD are main causes of PID.I've had many a colpo in my life and never have had PID!
