Endometrial biopsy

I was very nervous and expressed so when I went to see a Ggynocologist about a post menopausal bleeding eposode that I had.  My primiary doctor made the referral.  He had prescribed Misoprostol for me to take the day before doing a endometrial biopsy.  Is this solely because I expressed fear about the procedure or will this assist with the procecure somehow?  I know it lowers the acidic pH in the stomach. Today is the day before the procedure. I do not want to take the med. if doesn't help with the procedure.  I'm not nervous now.  I simply am fearful of the procedure itself but I am not thinking of that all the time.  I know the procedure takes about 10 min.  Please comment.

Thank you for the quick response.  I am also a tall woman--5' 9 1\2".  I am also the biggest chicken.  I was able to find some info @ Misoprostol and it is rarely prescribed to patients that may be difficult to insert intrauterine intruments so I guess the Doctor is doing all he can think to do to make it easier for me.  Anyway, I am grateful for your information about the procedure.  Monte

Hi Monte...I just had the endometrial biopsy done yesterday, and to my surprise, it hardly hurt.  I am 49 with post-menopausal bleeding too.  I just took an Aleve (they said Motrin was ok, but I only had Aleve).  That did the trick, and the cramping was minimal as well as the bleeding.  I feel fine already.  I tried mental relaxation during the procedure and kept myself from being tense.  Don't worry too much about it.  I have to have further tests done which are supposed to be more painful, they say, because I have an undiagnosed growth in my uterus that needs to be biopsied, so I am going to try the same thing (if they say it is ok to use Aleve) and try to stay relaxed.  I am just so glad that they are moving ahead to make sure they know what is going on.  Better safe than sorry.  Don't worry.  It was not so bad.
