New Here and Have a question ...or 2

First I want to say HI to you all,Iam from Canada (Eastern NB)and Iam soo glad I found this place!!

Ok I turned 40 yrs old in sept (gulp) always had severe periods everymonth, went to the dr only to find out that i had a 10x9x6 cyst on my left ovary, somy dr referred me to a specialist, and also recommended a complete hysterectomy at the same time! went to the specialist in October /09 and had my hysterectomy on december 14th /09 and yes that is fast for here lol.I had a c-section in 1988 so he said he would go through the same scar as my c-section so it is straight up and down.

He said surgery went well.I was in the hospital for 4 days.had NO vaginal discharge at all, which I thought was awesome as i was on my period when I went in.

Lots of discomfort and pain due to sugery but that is normal and I think of myself as pretty tough lol.
Or so i thought.........

Saturday Dec 19th my incision started to bleed some,it was a little red blood so I was concerned and went to the clinic.they said it was fine it was a "pocket" they gave me some "belly pads" to bring home.
Sunday Dec 20th through the whole day I filled 6 of those belly pads to me this was to much,so I called tele-care,they said watch it through the night if continues go to the hospital,it slowed down alot by morning,

December 23rd ten days later i go to the local health center where my own family dr was on duty at the time (thank God)
to have my 26 staples removed low and behold as they are taking the last staple out pop goes the incision,by this time I am scared (so much for the tough girl) the nurse is saying well maybe we can tape it with steri strips..at the same time looking like she is not sure,my Dr came in and is like no it needs to be packed!

So here it is january 13th I still have a hole in my belly, the nusre is still coming to pack it,and I can feel it bleeding al the time.
My question is how long does an open incision healing from the inside out normally take to heal?
then tuesday my reg time to start my period.ugg I start bleeding some red blood,so now Im just peed off lol.I had a dr app yesterday anyway so i called him and explained what is happening he says ok we will do a urine test in the morning..
I get to the dr do the test, and he finds,,,blood in my uring which he is sure just from surgery, said something prob just let go,he finds white blood cells and lots of sugar in my urine as well.so now the nice nurse who comes thursday, not only has to change the dressing but aloso take blood,,,,

All I wanna know is ..is this Ever gonna get better??

My dr also says DO NOTHING for the next 4 weeks which wil be my 8 weeks after surgery, then when the hole is healed DO NOTHING another 4-6 weeks!!
Is there a chance it can come open again after its healed??

Wow I feel better maybe i just needed to vent lol.
any suggestion or tips would be wonderful..Iam SO gonna have cabin fever after this is over lol

Yay! That's great news. I'm so glad to hear your incision is healing.
It does sound like you have a good Dr who is taking care of you. Your nurse sounds like she's really good too.
Yes, you rest and read your books and watch T.V. As long as you do that and your incision is healing your going to be just fine. Great news! Keep us up to date and take care. Remar

Thank you both Cherie and remar for ur responses, my nurse was here yesterday as she comes every 3rd day to change the dressings ..she thought it might heal faster not taking the dressing out everyday, and WOW she was right I had 3 openings in my incision and the 2 smaller ones are now healed she said from monday-thursday they finished healing at about 40%,also the large opening is finally starting to heal yeaaa she changed to something she called a "zero grade" packing?

There was only a small amount of dark blood on my bandage this time which made her happy, she also thought I may have a bladder infection, hence the whilt blood cells, she just left here she came back today to draw 5 tubes of blood from me for my dr,he is checking alot lol...
so hopefully monday I will have the results from them,so for now its like you said a book and my tv..

thank you again and Iam so glad I found you all.

i agree w Remar about the blood in urine..plus elevated wbc and spilling sugar all indicates infection//quite painful usually.
that was one very large cyst you had..wow.

As far as healing time from inside out I cannot begin to guess sorry it really depends on how deep position of wound etc and how fast your body tends to heal.

I know the packing is very annoying and its a let down when you expect your hysterectomy to be a cure for you aliments.

also do not mean to be rude at all but I did this and hurt myself for it a nurse had to clear it up for me...Nothing means literally just that lay on the couch,,rest rest elevate legs w a footstool or on couch or bed,,Ask your Dr. please but an icepac 15 min on 15 min off is usually good to reduce swelling and to reduce bleeding. NO HEAT not a heat pad nor hot shower,,absolutley no tub baths

I tthink your dr sounds good he is being cautious about possibility of wound reopening..take it very easy non heavy lifting. no medium lifting..Ask Dr Im guessing he will say 5lb max. also no frequent bending.and still no heat..no sex either,,Gee Im making life sound fun huh?? the thing is you want to heal  have wound get better and be fine

stay in touch w your dr if anything seems off,,sounds like you bleed a bit too much before going in ( I mean after the belly pads)

Heal well and rest enjoy the tv and book

This is the place to come to if you need to vent. Welcome to our site. I'm glad you found it.
I've heard of this happening with some women after surgery, the incision site opening up.
It sounds like you have a bladder infection going on too. Is your Dr giving you antibiotics? With the blood in your urine I'm wondering if they nicked your bladder during surgery or if it's from an infection.
Try to hang in there and do everything your Dr says. Take things easy and make sure the incision site is kept very clean.
