Robotic Surgery or Not Robotic Surgery - Help!

I have a surgeon who want to do a minimally invasive robotic hysterectomy and removal of one ovary.  My worry is that the technology has only been at the hospital since July, so no one around here has tons of experience.  I don't want to be a lab rat.  How different is it from laparascopic, is it worth it if I am really worried about this?  I asked how many my doctor had done and the scheduler said "Oh he's done a lot of them, at least 10!"  10??!!  That isn't a lot in my book.  What would you do?  Would you go elsewhere and have laparascopic or go for it because it is a ton better?

Thanks so much for your info!  It makes me feel a lot better.  Everything that I have read about the DaVinci makes me think that is the best way to go for recovery - just the thought of it kind of creeps me out.  I do think I'll take your advice and do some finger walking!

Thanks!

I can answer this from my personal experience I had the DaVinci Robotic,,I was very pleased with it. I have studied on this at great lenght. It is true that bleeding is less, incisions are smaller, recovery quicker,.surgeon can do very very precise cauterisations and incisions that he would not be able to do w other methods.

Ok 10....I see and understand your concern. My physician had done over a hundred, somebody has to be number 11 or so for your dr.

What would I do, I think Id try very hard to get the Davinci method, I think I would also speek to at least one more dr, let your fingers to the walking and get your phone book out call and just speak th receptionists at gyn offices ask if dr uses DaVinci robot and approx how many surgeries.

Also I trust my instincts, do you? whats you gut telling you about this current dr ? Do you like him? does he seem compentet? If you trust him I would say go for it. I know for a 100 % fact that drs must be completly trained and spend many hrs before being allowed to use this machine.

There are video clips on u-tube that show the surgery if you wish to view.
