anemia and lab results question

Hi all.  I have a history of anemia (since about 5 years ago)....It goes as low as 8, and then I feel horrible, and my hematologist does 2 rounds of injectifer (IV iron)...I will feel so much better after the second round, but within a month, it starts dropping again....My gyno says that I would be wise to get a hysterectomy (I'm 47), and hormones still in normal range (no menopause anytime soon)...so, I had labs done before they schedule surgery....
RDW 26.0 % (normal range is 11.0-15.0), so I guess this is kind of high
MCH 26.4 (not too low, but still a little below nowrmal-enough to be flagged)
Hemoglobin was 13.5 a month ago, and now its at 11.9 (still normal)

Anybody know why my RDW is high?  I tried to do some research, and it states it could be anemia, but my HGB is still normal...I also read that high RDW is a predictor of early death in the general population....anyone else hear of this?  Any input will be greatly appreciated

Higher RDW might point to Vitamin B12 and it Folate deficiency
