Advice needed from experienced...

Hello, I am 26 year old married mother of 2.  For the last 6+ months I have experienced some abdominal pain on my left side which has become increasingly worse especially after sex.  I had a PAP a couple weeks ago and while my OBG was pushing on my lower abdomen I was in a great deal of pain.  She also noted I had a small amount of discharge that was unusual. This too has been consistent in the last 6+ months. Sorry if TMI but comparable to a yeast without any symptoms.  She suggested I have an ultrasound done the next day.

I met with my Dr. yesterday to go over the results and the utrasound did show a cyst on my left side. Along with an enlarged uterus and enlarged ovary.  She stated what the ultrasound had shown was not worrysome to her, however the fact that I was in pain concerned her.  Now, I am scheduled for liproscoic surgery in 2 weeks to "explore" the area to ensure no fibroid tumors or anything else is found.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?  I am very nervous to be put under for a Dr. to explore......... please help.

If your hurting tonight a good hot bath may help..If you were given any pain meds do not take anything with asprin or any blood thining product...

they will give you post op instructions tommrow..Probably dont drive, no lifting , sex or tub baths for a bit...its a rather easy recoop for most,,certainly take it easy for at least a week ( ask doctor for post op directions)

I agree with you it is a horrid thing to deal with, I hope you find just a bit of comfort knowing that you have enpowered yourself and your on the right tract, you will have an acurate diagnosis after this procedure and with your doctor you can discuss your options,,do let me know what happens when your feeling up to it , I shall be thinking of you, Cherie

Ladies,

Thank you for your responses.  I have followed up with my Dr. again and we went over the procedure she is doing.  She did make it very clear that if anything should need to be "taken out" She would not do it without my consent.

My surgery is tomorrow morning. I am nervous since now the pain is bringing me to my knees when I go to stand after sitting for long periods of time. What a horrible thing for anyone to deal with.

Thank you again for your help.

Just do one thing and ask your doctor to put into writing that a hysterectomy is out of the question at this point. This is a wonderful way to ' take a look around ' but there are a few doctors who will take it upon themselves to ' second guess ' what it is you want. Make sure your doctor knows where you stand. This is totally up to you but caution is a good thing!!  Most cysts are non cancerous and, with the care of a competent doctor, can be removed with out invasive surgery if need be. Cysts come and go and do go away after menopause.

one more thing sometimes not all the gas is removed and post test that can be painful, the very best way to get rid of trapped gas from a lap is to walk, just walk around the house and the gas will expell itself..

Hi lynn.
Ive had lots of ladies experience similar, pain is for sure your bodies way of sending you a clue that hey something is wrong here, You say your ovary is enlarged as well as uterus, Im not clear on where the cyst is located is it on your ovary?

In any case a laproscopy is a slightly invasine procedure and a very excellent diagnostic test. They will make 3 insisions about 1/2 in each,,one in the navel , one right pelvis one left pelvis...they insert metal rods to fill your abdomen with gas ,,,then the rods hold up the tent like skin so the doctor can insert a scope and physically see every thing in your abdominal cavity, he will take photos of what he finds,

The recovery from this test is only a few days your doctor will tell you your specifics, sometimes, they may take a bit of tissue for biopsy. Just no heavy lifting and ask doc when you may resume sex.

I think your answers will be found during the laproscopy, and cysts can be very very painful so, please try not to worry to much, I know thats easy to say but statistically the odds are really high that you will be just fine..Cherie
