my missing right ovary????

Hi i am recovering at the moment from a full abdominal hysterectomy. however the next day after the opp the Dr said to me," you didnt tell me you had had previous surgery", i replied i havent, he continued to tell me that my right ovary was missing.  9 years ago i had a section to deliver my second baby as i had a placental abruption and had to undergo an emergency section to deliver the baby.  He was to leave my ovarys alone for hormone reasons. the reason why i had a hysterectomy was i had fybroids and adeomyosis aswell, bled heavily and lots of pain. i am shocked that i dont have a right ovary, he said,"maybe you were born with only one ovary" well ive had 2 kids now, however after my 2nd 9 years ago i used no contraceptives and never fell pregnant, How do i find out where my ovary has gone or if i ever had one, surely by having 2 kids and aged 38 this would have been picked up by now!!!! Where is my right ovary? Do i need to check my medical records? Thanks louise robertson

loulous advice is very good,,,I would think if your ovary was removed after your emergency c section that you would have noticed some hormonal issues (but maybe not) often when one ovary is removed the second takes on the job of both, kind of like when a person has only one kidney.

Its also quite possible that you may have been born with just one ovary, a good healthy one since you were lucky enough to have two children.

I had my hyster for the exact same reason as you..be  good to yourself get lots of rest, if you have any questions about the post op of a hysterectomy let me know.

hugs

I would check into any CTs, MRIs, or ultrasounds you've had done of your abdomen/pelvis.  Even if they are looking at or for something else, your report will generally talk about various organs.  I've had a hysterectomy so now when they do scans of me, the report says something like 'uterus and ovaries surgically absent'.  Your previous scan reports may mention both ovaries or may say something about there only being one.
