Having your ovaries removed will be a decision only you and your Dr can make.
My mother had a hysterectomy at 27, she's 67 now, and kept her ovaries and has had no problems. Of course all women are different and there's really no way to tell if you'll have problems later on by keeping them.
Please let us know what you decide when you see your Dr. Take care. Remar
I am thinking about having them removed. I am 57 and already through Menopause. So, the little bit of estrogen that I will get from them probably wont matter. The cancer that cannot be detected will bother me. Preventative ....may be the best option.

That's a great idea Cherie to do a poll.
Some of us do have the option to keep our ovaries, I did'nt, but I would like to see how many women have been happy that they kept theirs when given the option.
Take care. Corena
No this site moniters words, the word s u c k s especially bothers me what does an infant do at mothers breast? It can be a word used for different meanings.
I got a good chuckle outta the Man in next life comment too, Im glad we have member who even while dealing with very serious matters can make some one smile, even for a minute.
For what wannasmile said, she gave me a good idea, I am going to start a poll on here for all who have had a bso and ask if they had it to do over again would they keep ovaries or not.
As I have said before this is probably one of the most contraversial forums on this wonderful web site.
wannabe who would have thought a car accident could be the sorce of saving your life? Look into DaVinci Robotic Assisted for your BSO, its a good method , write me or post a thread on here if I can help you in anyway.
hugs to the both of you !
What I cannot write S U C K S
Well, You did make me laugh. (Im gonna be a MAN)
Thanks for your story. So sorry for your suffering. I will definitely keep your info in mind as I make my decision. I will be able to discuss this with my Dr. on Friday Oct. 2. At this point I do not want to be a man in another life but I do think that getting old ***** big time. Hang in there and take one day at a time.

I had my hysterectomy, keeping my ovaries, over 8yrs ago now. Things went along well, and I thought it the best thing I had ever done until a MVA caused alot of abdominal injuries from seatbelt 12months later, which resulted in numerous insicional? hernias and more surgery. Now 6 yrs since my last surgery, I am suffering greatly with ovarian cysts, adhesions and am being monitered for ovarian cancer. I have just been told that I will now have to face the removal of both ovaries, and probably the biggest surgery recovery I've had to date, because of all the internal scarring, adhesions and surgical mesh inserted from my last operation. I can hardly bare the idea of having to go through all this again, but the pain is to hard to control. I think if I could go back in time, I would have just got it all out at once, and moved forward to deal with menopause, it just seems like an endless cycle. I know one thing for sure, in my next life I'm going to be a MAN.......................
Your right on this even post menopause the ovaries trickle just a bit of hormones, its the reason they are said to help w bone health. It is also the same theory w heart health that the tiny bit of estrogen still produced helps w heart.
I kind of regreat having my healthy ovary removed, I will never know if the lack of them contributed to me having a three level discectomy or not( on my neck, my neck bones wher quite bad) I had to make a choice as you do, my left ovary there was not a choice it was addheared to my bowels covered in endo tissue and many many cysts ,,right ovary was perfect, i just was worried about the cabcer factor, it is very hard to catch early if you have no cervixm uteus, usually its not till a woman is in great pain and other symptoms and its already stage 3 or 4 by then.
I dont know your family history, factor that in, if there is any history of ovarian cancer, thats something to really think about, Really if your already done w menopause and ok w that, there is only one con and thats the risk of cancer its not an increased risk, it a increased risk of not catching it early,
I am already through menopause. Im 57.....so that is not a con for me. I have read that keeping your ovaries keeps your bones healthy and those who still have their ovaries live longer (better heart health).....

thats really a hard choice, the cons are many your going to be thrown into a instant menopause, and the symptoms of that could be mild -hell. the pro is you will never have to worry of ovarian cancer and its difficult to find ovarian cancer on a post hyster woman in early stages.
