my daugther is 9 months and she still has not shown any sign of teeth. i know that sometimes kids dont get their teeth until later but im concerned that it may be because of her IP. i have touched her gums and have noticed that they are quite thin on one side. should i take her to a pediatric dentist or wait a while?

I'm the Exec. Director of IPIF.  Problematic teeth are the most common of the IP symptoms.  I would suggest you take your daughter to a Pediatric dentist, let him/her know that she has IP, and if he is unfamiliar with IP I can send him many articles about teeth so he/she can learn about it.

I was going to say that my daughter had a xray/Mri of her teeth done at 18 months old. They found her to have 9 teeth total, plus three molars, and only 2 were going to have adult teeth. She is lacking gums in the back of her mouth due to her lack of teeth. She will be 4 next month, and eats literally everything. So a lack of teeth doesnt stop her. SHe has made a limit on what she cant eat, hard round candies, she cant have..otherwise meat, nuts, ect..she chomps with her front teeth like a rabbit. Feb. we get a mold for her dentures..hopefully. I hope this gives you hope that even if she doesnt have a full set of teeth, she will adapt to the teeth she will get, and be okay. Amaris seemed to be a slow teeth girl as well. They will come in. They might be pointy, cone shaped, or not at all. Amaris has two normal and the rest are cone shaped. Sharp. Man biting stage was a bear..ha ha. She literally drew blood one time. That stopped quickly. Ok..enough blabbing. I hope some of this was okay ...tootles, Katie and Amaris

I'm 22 and I have IP and my mother has told me that when I was a younger, it took a real long time for me to get any teeth. She said it was definately longer than any of the other children. As appleblossom said, her teeth will come in, but they may be shaped different. I have pointy, cone shaped, and sharp teeth just as she was mentioning. I have had to get some of them filed down due to their sharpness. The dentist also told my mother that I will not get my wisdom teeth (no complaints here!). However, I have never had any eating problems because of it. It will happen all in good time :D
