Do we get Herpes 2 inside the mouth?

Hello Terry:

I have genital HSV2 and I am taking Acyclovir 400 mg. twice daily.  I get outbreaks if I am under a lot of stress only.

I met someone recently--whom by the way has become very special to me:-) and I am special to him as well:-) --  He is telling me he was tested (a sample was taken) and was diagnosed with HSV2; it looks like a blister on one side of his tongue and another one inside his cheek; he says he gets the outbreaks regularly and they hurt a lot. He had it for about 10 yrs.   He went to the Dr. and he started medication (Acyclovir 300 mg. and now is being changed to Valtrex because the other one is not helping him that much).

We haven't kissed or had any sex yet. We are in the process of getting to know each other more....and we are trying to find some answers to some questions:

1.  What kind of test should he have done to confirm what kind of herpes he has?
2.  Do people get herpes inside the mouth?
3.  Is it true that HSV2 on the face is only from the nouse through the chin only?
4.  Am I at risk of getting herpes on my lips or inside the mouth?  I have never had any on these areas.
5.  He hasn't ever gotten an outbreak on his genitals, so we should use protection.  What are the chances while using protection of him getting HSV2?
6.  Does he need to have an outbreat to be tested and get an accurate result?
7.  When both of us are on medications does this lessen the chances of spreading to other areas as long as we don't have contact when we have outbreaks?  We are trying to be careful with each other...we like each other very very much...thank God everything is going well so far:-)

Thank you very much for your time and your help with this:-).

Thank you for your reply Dr. Santos...I really appreciated it.

So, will I be able to acquire herpes labialis when kissing whether there are outbreaks or not?

I tried checking the link you mentioned and I didn't have any success.

Thank you again:-)

Hi,
How are you? Herpes labialis, caused by herpes simplex type 1 virus, is an infection of the lips, mouth, or gums. On the other hand, herpes simplex virus type 2 causes genital herpes  as well as herpes labialis. Diagnosis is made on the basis of the appearance or culture of the lesion or with viral culture, viral DNA test, or Tzanck test of the skin lesion.  Antiviral medications such as acyclovir  may help the symptoms go away sooner and decrease pain. However, herpes sores often recurs. Try to avoid direct contact with herpes sores and avoid triggers. Contraceptives  can help reduce, but do not entirely eliminate the risk of catching herpes. Take care and best regards.
