Hi,
How is your wife? There are many possible cause of blood in stool such as anal fissure, infection, inflammation (ulcerative colitis), colorectal polyps, colon cancer and diverticular disease.  Colitis causes inflammation and ulcers in  the intestine and may be triggered by a variety of factors such as stress, genetics and immune system status. It is best that she have this checked by her attending physician for proper diagnosis. Additional diagnostic tests may need to be done .Take care and do keep us posted.
