Possible rabies exposure?

My boyfriends mother just took in three baby raccoons that were found in the walls in an attic of a house in her neighborhood. She's raised and released them before. These ones are so young they don't have any teeth and haven't opened their eyes yet. I was helping bottle feed them yesterday, and holding them an letting them suckle my fingers. I never stopped to consider that rabies could be a factor till way later, because even though I wasn't bitten I have hangnails and they were suckling on those fingers. They seem pretty healthy, drinking milk just fine. But should I still be running to get a shot?

There is a risk if the cut is open or hangnail. You need to have the raccoons monitored by a vet or animal control. They can either check them to see if they have rabies over a certain amount of time and if not they will vaccinate them. They usually just quarantine them, vaccinate and release. If not then you will need to probably get vaccinated. Or if it is your daughter she will. I  would see your doctor about this. Rabies vaccination should be started right away after exposure. Raccoons are the number 1 wild animal to have rabies. They may not have it but you don't know because by the time they have symptoms it is too late for you.

No, they aren't gone. She still has them, gonna release them when they can fend for themselves. She didn't seem worried about any of that, so I don't know if I should be. But I do have a hangnail that's considered open I guess, stings if I put alcohol on it. That was one of the fingers the babies were suckling on. This was all on Monday, yesterday

p.s. if you still have the same animals they animal control or a vet can possibly quarantine them to see if you are safe.

Hi and good question. So are the baby raccoons gone? Do you have any open sore where the hangnails are? Like any area exposed to blood? If this is possible then you could be at risk. Raccoons can have rabies. Also scratches where saliva got in is another route. How long has it been since this happened?
