Rabies from a pool

Hi,

I recently went for a quick swim in a pool at a hotel in the states. I was in for maybe a minute until I noticed a no swimming sign. I didnt think much of it until that night i saw bats dive bombing the pool. I have no idea if squirrils or raccoons has access to the pool. There was definite contact with the pool water by the bats. Im guessing saliva entered the pool water.  The lady at the office said that since it was the colder season they only checked the pool chemicals once a week instead of once daily. Is this a risk for rabies? i guess pool water could have gotten in my eyes/nose etc. I'm not sure if it can be transmitted this way. Thanks for the help

Hi and sorry this happened. Normally, a dead animal or bats in a pool wouldn't hurt you if there was chlorine in the pool and it was well maintained.  So, you may ask the pool attendants if they are still adding the proper amount of chlorine to the pool despite it only being once a week. If you are unsure I would see a doctor to  see if this is considered an exposure. It would be low risk but still any risk is not good. Chlorine usually gets diluted by a week so it may not have been potent enough to kill any virus that was in the pool.
