HLA B27 is ordered to check for:

ankylosing spondylitis (AS), reactive arthritis. Reactive arthritis can be an infection in the joints. Ankylosiing spondylitis is a type of chronic spinal arthritis. So, another way is to use a need and take a sample from the joint and culture it or do PCR to see if you have an infection there. But this is less invasive.  The reactive arthritis is not really an autoimmune disease but the ankylosing spondylitis is. So I 'm not sure how they can differentiate which one it is from this test it is more of a screen for both then they would go from there.

Hi , I am not  a doctor but I am a microbiologist and have had hematology and can give you some advice. So, your results look like you possibly have either iron deficiency or thalassemia. If you are from south east asia, or the middle east thalassemia is genetic and you get it from your parents. There are two types alpha and beta. Alpha usually has no symptoms but you have abnormal blood results, and beta has symtoms and you have abnormal blood results. Most likely you have iron deficiency or a type of microcytic, hypochromic anemia. So, I would see a hematologist to determine what to do next. Have you had your iron, ferritin and Total Iron binding capacity blood tests done? If so I  would like to see those too. Also it would be good to get a vitamin B12 done as well. I'm sure they will order some more tests to check to see if you have thalassemia if it is alpha or beta. If it is beta they will have to treat you.

What symptoms do you have?

I do see you have some symptoms in your original post. Are you fatigued? Short of breath, have gaundice or yellow skin or whites of the eyes?

The monocytes don't really look abnormal they are very boarderline only on the last one the other two times they were normal.

The platelet count is totally normal and within range.

5. Do you drink alcohol?
6. Do you take water pills.
thanks,

1. My last uric acid level was 7.9. The upper most limit was 7.

2. Not hurting nowadays but previously they were hurting but i still have pain in legs and knees. But i have noticed that if i walk the pain declines and went i rest the pains returns slowly especially that night.

3. All tyhriod levels were within limits.

4. I eat alot of chicken and rice. But no red meat or fish.

5. I had never even touched alcohol....

6. I do not take water pills at all

Nowadays i am taking 2 pills of seven seas cod liver oil in morning after breakfast and 2 pills of neurobin forte it is a mixture of vitamin b complex and b12 and b6 and it for nerves and muscle strengh.

I also have sinus problem and it has also effected me alot from last 20 days.

I also have irritation in my armpits and groin area and my groin area had turned black a bit. I think i am having swollen lymph nodes in my armpits and in groin area because my lymphocytes were also high.

My test results

1. CEA (CARCINO EMBRYONIC ANTIGEN TEST)..its a cancer marker test and my result was 2.27  and bio ref. Interval for nonsmoker is less than 3.so my result is ok.

2. My Ferritin level was 246.40  range(22-322)

3. My vitamin b12 level was 255 range(187-883)

4. My vitamin D level was 37.1 range(30-70) considered sufficent.

5. My HBA1C for diabetes result was 5.2%  and it was excellent

6. I also had Prothrombin time (PT)(NaCitrate) and everything was normal

My lymphocytes, rbc, leucocyte and monocytes and platelets are increasing every months where as pcv, mcv, mch and mchc are falling very slowly..... i think it is not hiv especially when i am tested hiv negative even after 11 months. I had read on internet that in hiv positive people lymphocytes decline rapidly even my doctor says i m hiv negative. My chlaymdia, herpes, and syphilis test were also negative after 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 month and 6 months. My urine test were also normal. But i am still clueless about my health problems which i am facing. Many community members says lymphocytes count of 42 to 45% is not considered high but i feel my body is fighting with something and my legs had become weak alot in last 8 months and knee weakness and pains are also there.... but if you will physically see my legs you will not find change is muscle mass and muscle fat.. i had mri also 5 months ago and nothing was revealed in that also...my legs are very sensitive to cold and pains develops rapidly if they feel cold....my artritis(RA) was also negative.....i will be very thankful to you if you can suggest something....

I would cut out the cod liver oil that may be causing the high uric acid. It is pretty concentrated. Also,  be careful with vitamin B6 it can give you permanent nerve damage if you take over 200mg  a day. No don't worry about the STD's or the HIV. It is done and not a problem. I think you could have either an anemia, thalassemia or iron deficiency. Also, do you don't what your cells looked like microscopically? So I suggest you see a hematologist if you haven't seen one yet. They can do a electrophoresis on the blood to test for thalassemeia if negative then your iron level and ferritin and see if that is off and also need to see what the cells look like microscopically if you have that report. The other blood tests look great.

Actually, all of these results are pretty normal except for this last results of the lymphocytes being a little high. The lymphocytes are probably up due to your cold. No worries.

If you had leukemia the white count would be really really high. So far it looks like an anemia and/ or anemia due to iron deficiency.
Let me know how your appointment goes.

Yes I thought that was a possibility. Glad it is Thalassemia minor. What type of anemia? Iron deficiency or another type? Is there any treatment involved for the Thalassemia minor (alpha thalassemia)?

Yes Thalassemia minor is much less concerning than the major one. He will probably just correct the anemia. You should feel better once he gives you iron or whatever type of anemia he thinks it is. The lymphocytes weren't that high only minor changes really. You will be okay.
