My wife, diagnosed with polycystic ovaries/overstimulation

I need some advice. Very nervous about this this.

My wife and I are trying to get pregrant. She has been taking injections and medications. We completed the transfer for IVF on Sunday. She is starting to feel bloating, gained 5 lbs in 2 months, her buttox is sore and her back hurts. She does not feel herself. The dr said she has polycystic ovaries/overstimulation... they are large...and we need to monitor this.

I am so scared., I dont know what to do., Is this life threatening for my wife? The dr told her to say home and drink water. She cant even go to work. She is 30 years old.

Please help me! I am scared for my wifes health. Will it get better on its own? If she ends up being pregnant in a couple of weeks because of this IVF will it get worse before it gets better. What effects will this have on my wife. Is this problem a long term issue, will it go away> what do we need to do?

Any advice you can provide would be very helpful thank u very much!!

Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome is a known complication of IVF. You must follow the advice of your IVF doctor carefully. It does not sound serious yet and you are correct in saying it could get worse if she is pregnant and will need close monitoring by the IVF doctor. If she does not become pregnant, it wil resolve on its own.  You need close monitoring and communication with your IVF doctor.

I do not know what they advised you but most people are advised to take it easy ie no vigorous exercise or activity, no sex, no trauma of the abdomen, no pelvic examinations by anyone other than a gentle transvaginal ultrasound. You are usually advised to monitor the weight daily at home. If you have sudden weight gain of 5lbs or more or unable to urinate regularly or have increasing pelvic pain or difficulty to breath you should contact your doctor immediately.
Drinking water or Gatorade is appropriate to maintain urination.
Again, the best thing to do is follow your IVF doctors advice and keep in close communication with them or any questions or concerns.

hey thanks for your advice. But what my wife has is OHSS. Ovarian hyperstimuliation due the the hormone injections she has been taking. with the drs advice...this is a side effect. and this is why she is feeling like this and she has been in bed rest for 2 weeks so far. it can get better and it can get worse. not sure why the dr in this forum only answered me once, and did not answer my follow up question?????

when she gets her period shell feel better till then its diff for her to breathe, walk around, and she bloated because her ovary is large..if she gets pregnant it will take longer to get well and can get worse..this is what im worried about!!!

in april of lastyear i had an ovarian cyst It was the size of a 7month old fetus I has it removed. my overy was removed my dr. said that i had one in my other overy but she was able to save that one. She told me she wanted me to take birth control to prevent anymore, she knew I wanted to have a baby and I was not gonna take the birth control.  She said that every women gets ovarian cysts but we usually get rid of them on our own she said that if they were small enough I could take birth control to help the process. I did not end up taking the birth control and now 8 months later im pregnant! No help at all. Now im n ot a dr. just sharing my expeirence with you.  I hope you are able to have a baby cause I know how it feels! Now I just hope i can carry this baby. Now yes she should drink water and i also changed my diet no fastfood at all no greasy food I dont know if this helped me but I did feel better. Tell her not to stress if she can help it and be patient and she will have that baby

Thanks for your help. I have one question. If she is in fact pregnant, how would it get worse before it gets better. Im worried that it might have an effect on her health, and Im very nervous about it. She was complaining of bloating before the transfer and now that she did the transfer seems like its getting worse, backaches, sore bottom, bloating, etc.
The dr instructed her to be in bedrest for a while until further notice. Now that she is relaxing in bed shes started to feel better than she was. What does this mean?

Is she is not pregnant how long will it take for her to go back to normal?
If she is pregnant how long will it take for her to get back to normal and in this case is it life threatening is she is pregnant and have this hyperstimulation of the ovaries?
