Urologist is treating me with Elmiron for IC/ questions

I have been fighting pain in my area between my scrotum and anus for about 9 months now.  I was first told I had prostatitis and did have a positive Group B Strep infection.  Was on a round of antibiotics for about 60 days and felt good.  Symptoms came back, was tested again, negative culture this time.  He put me on antibiotics again for 60 more days, I would have good days and bad.  I have also been experiencing perennial pain, frequent urge to pee, have to push hard to pee, and still pain in my taint.  After 4 negative cultures my doc wanted to start me on elmiron to see if my symptoms would go away.  I have asked NUMEROUS times if it could be an STD or something else and he said NO!  All of my cultures were negative and something would have shown up if I had one.

Now I am on Elmiron for 12 months to see if my symptoms go away. So far I have noticed an improvement but still have good days and bad days.

Any advice?

What did he do?  They were going to do a bladder biopsy and about 3 other things to me.

I just had a test done to confirm that I had IC and it was a simple procedure. I don't know why he would start you on the meds before doing more test.

Anyone?  Should I have started Elmiron without confirming it was IC first?  The procedure he wanted me to do was going to cost me a fortune which is why I went with the Elmiron.
