spinchter of oddi dysfunction

Does anyone with spinchter of oddi dysfunction have symptoms that feel like there is an severely irritated open wound on upper right side of abdomen? I also have a feeling on the left side like an internal bruise and some pain in the center, but long standing has been pain on the right side. I'm trying to determine if this may be my problem, if others have similar symptoms.

                                    thanks

I had my gall bladder removed four months ago. Ten days later I developed pain along my right side which intensifed when even a little fat was included in my diet. The pain is like a burning sensation along the rib cage on the upper back and extends along my chest. The pain also radiates to the flanc area.  When I get the pain the whole right side locks up in a spasm for a few hours and feels like I am about to have a heart attack. So I am eating a totally fat free diet but when I give in to little temptation, I pay a big price. My friends who are doctors have asked me to check out for Spinchter Oddi Dysfunction.

It's all about the food.  I hope some of my info will help.  I take Questran (generic Cholestrymine) 1 tsp. w/ water at bed (One package can be to binding and constipate.),  It binds bile and stops my diarrhea.  If I don't take this at bedtime.  The next morning, no matter what I put in my mouth I will have diarrhea.  I had my gallbladder removed 9 yrs. ago, and with that I got IBS w/ severe diarrhea (pain and fatigue, alot of acid).  Also, try Protonix for acid.  I cannot eat gassy fruits or vegies, citrus or acidic foods, no fried or fatty foods, no dairy, no alcohol, caffiene, garlic, onions.  I eat low sugar, low fat meals - oatmeals, fiber one bars, fruit & nut bars, lean quisine meals (w/ no gassy fruits, veggies, etc), applesauce, activia yogurt, sugar free & fat free ice creams & cookies. No real people food.
The Questran is a miracle for me.  I've just been put on -SYMAX an antispasm med for your digestion and it took away my nausau. I also have dyspepsia (difficulty digesting). I live w/ pain everyday due to digestion and adhesions and it disrupts my life and family.
Good luck, I wish you well.

hi all,

thanks for writing back. I haven't really had pain in my upper back with all of this, although I hear this is common with sod. After I eat under my ribs on right feels like a ping pong ball is stuck there, then as I continue doing things it starts to feel irritated like an open wound. It gets progressively worse throughout the day.

I don't believe that my problem is IBS from everything I have read about this and having this when I was younger, although doctors seem to want to say IBS or functional dyspepsia when they don't know what else to do. When I did have IBS years ago it was relieved within minutes with sublingual levsin, but this does not work for the pain in my upper abdomen. . I also had my gallbladder out, sorry I did since this was not the problem, and my reflux has worsened since this so that I now have barretts esopohous, which I am also told is not the cause of my upper rt side pain, but is a concern in itself.

I never heard of skelaxin. Does it help just spasms in back or pain in abdomen also?

Iam going through the same thing.  Going back to the doctors on Nov.5th.  I am going to ask them about this SOD.  i had my gallbladder out in April and it seems like I still have it with back pain and the pain runs up under my right rib cage.  It's more like burning spasms.  I noticed now it is usually after I eat, about 1-2 hours later.  I ward them off with skelaxin (which the doc gave me for spasms in my back. )  I will update.
