Hi Hope, read your response to destini85, have a lot in common since gallbladder removal, wish i could go back and ask them to remove stones, but leave gallbladder, worse operation ive had, left my life very difficult, would like to ask about this Bentyl, seems a lot of people on this site are taking it, I take Questron lite powder with water twice a day, have been for the past 13 years, it is a binder and has really helped me alot but still have problems with loose movements when eating wrong foods, also having more of a problem now that i am on lexapro for anxiety, i read that you have some problems with nerves and that doesen't help our systems (bowels) have suffered with nerves my whole life, has caught up to me and am suffering more and more, A BIG CIRCLE THAT DOESN'T SEEM TO END!  please tell me about the Bently and what it does, maybe i should switch, need to start living life more, and wouldn't be as nervous about doing things if my bowels were in check.

thanks

i am in the same boat you are....endo, IBS, gastritis, GERD, ulcer and hital hirnea! i have gone though so many doctors, and unfortunately haven't found one that really helps me out much. i was taking a bunch of different meds; darvocet, sucfrate, bentyl, and some other stuff....but i didn't want to take a bunch of pills daily so i cut most of it out. i am on continous hormones (birth control) to try and control my endo and the pain that brings. i know that when you have endo, you always have other issues by your stomach, and at times the endo can eventually grow on your other organs. are you doing anything to try and control the endo? as i type now i have a stabbing knife pain in my stomach, waiting for this nurse to call back. the sad thing is i'm afraid she is going to tell me to just eat some fiber or something stupid. this internal med doctor avoids as much meds as possible....which is sometimes bad. to control my nerves since that flares up my IBS, she is trying me on all kinds of SSRI or antidepressant....even though i am not depressed....so it seems to be an endless cycle for me. good luck though and keep trying. def watch your diet. i don't eat much meat besides fish anymore, and i try to get a lot of fiber rich foods....

hope this helps!

Crumy is right. You have to change your diet to exclude spicy or greasy foods. It's a tough adjustment but one sure way to help with the IBS. Mine was diagnosed after gallbladder surgery at age 18, although I had bouts of instant, uncontrollable diarrhea as early as my sophomore year of high school. My dr told me that IBS eventually doesn't affect you as much as years go by but he was wrong. Sometimes I can eat a food and it won't bother me. Other times I can eat something and spend most of the day in the bathroom. There are medications that help considerably. I'm currently on Bentyl. It causes some dizziness and drowsiness initially, but after awhile, the side effects leave. I've also been on Librax, which didn't help me and Donatal, which made me super sleepy all of the time. The only thing I can say about Bentyl is that it can cause constipation (according to my doctor) I'm certain mine is from something else because I stopped taking my Bentyl a month ago as a trial to see if it was the cause and I still have constipation. I know it's not advisable to stop taking meds without dr approval but a combination of severe constipation and sleepiness from an unknown cause left me no choice. She advised me to take one tab of Colace in the morning and one tab in the evening to help with the constipation.

Did the doctor give you any medications to help?

I have been suffering since i was young but got worse after gallbladder surgery.  I would suggest to be very careful about what you are eating, no longer can we eat at fast food places, especially McDonalds, or Burger King, can't have spicy foods or fried foods.  I am down to very little that i can eat, except for once in a while if im feeling okay i may have a Wendy's burger, but no chicken nuggets, I tend to eat alot of pasta with butter and parm cheese, it has put some weight on me but it is okay on my stomach.  Try to eat chicken, fish, some red meat, and go easy on the junk food and soda if you drink it and let me know how you make out.

good luck
