Infections

Are repeated infections a concern for a patient with CLL/SLL. Will the doctor decide you need treatment or will you continue to receive an antibiotics remedy?

Hi there.

Repeated infections may be a sign that the CLL/SLL is increasing in activity.  Increased activity of this disease would usually result in low levels of immunoglobulins that are required to ward off infections.

Repeated infections is one of the relative indications to start treatment for CLL.  However, different physicians have different tolerance levels.  If the infections can be controlled adequately with antibiotics, some doctors would opt not to start treatment.

You may get the opinion of other oncologists in your area regarding this, to achieve the best possible care.  As I have said, different oncologist would have different tolerance.

Regards.
