Cirrhosis

I have lived with cryptic Liver cirrhosis for 7 years one of the consultants let slip that I could die prematurely at the moment it is stable no better no worse.  some people say take more protein some say less.  What is the truth does anybody know?

Thank you for r your comments.  What is strange is that my consultant says take more protein.  Mine was due to they do not know some of them call it cryptogenic cirrhosis, whether that is slight difference I don't know.   But you can do it as well just keep fighting and take one day at a time my trouble is I have gained a lot of weight and are now 81kg they keep saying loose and take more exercise, but as I cannot walk well as that is one of my disabilities left over from Guillain Barre Syndrome (were the sheaths of the nerves are stripped, no cure they get better eventually)  That is why I don't walk well and after that my liver problems started.  well we must keep going

Never give up quirkey. you are doing very well with your cirrhosis. Having it for 7 years says that whatever you have been doing it is working for you. I have cirrhosis due to alchohol abuse so for me the very first thing i had to do was stop immediatley. There is absoulutley nothing to make an excuse to ever have another drink again. I have read that with other health issues and living with cirrhosis it can be very difficult to know what type of diet to maintain. Be very certain to keep taking whatever vitamins your doctor has reccomend for you. When you have cirrhosis you liver isnt fuctioning right so you loose alot of the vitamins from the foods you eat because it passes through your system so quickly. Hang in there, your doing good! ps. v8 juice is very good too. so much good stuff in there!

Thank you it has helped one it has given me hope because they have not mentioned stages.

The weird thing is consultant and gp say keep my protien levels up and have more protien.  Milk Thistle does not agree with me as I have so much else wrong with me.

I say that even if I leave my body for science They wont want it, because it falling to bits

I dont know if this helps much but i have cirrhosis and my doctor warned me to watch my amount of protein intake. He says that more protein can cause my ammonia level to get higher. I was having alot of effects from this, such as loss of balance, studdering, confusion. i now watch my protein level more carefully and he put me on a fairly new medicine called xifaxan 550mg twice daily. I guess this pill replaces the syrup that many people have to drink. It has worked well for me thus far. I also take a pill called milk thistle, its something my wife read about. its an organic pill and said to help. i dont know if it does but my doctor said it cant hurt so i thought why not. i dont know if it works but 7 months ago i was told by my doctor that i was at the begining of the final stage and now he always remarks of the amazing amount of recovery i have made. I am very thankfull. i really hope something in what i wrote will help you make the best decision to help you.
