Elevated ALT

I've had 3 recent blood tests, all have come up with abnormal liver enzyme results.  Everything else is normal.  My AST first time was 112 ? ALT was 125.  Second AST was 165 / ALT was 115, third was AST 105 / ALT 165.  I'm a social drinker, but have abstained since first results (2+ weeks) & have tried to eliminate all toxic substances (I have taken a LOT of tylenol in the last 5 years for pain...thought it would be "gentler" than the arthritis prescription).  I'm now freaking out that my most recent ALT is 165 & I must have a CAT scan...I know NOTHING about what to expect, more importantly, why is my liver doing this & how can I fix it???  Why did my ALT levels increase AFTER eliminating all toxins???  (I even quit smoking!)

Tylenol is not safe to take at double the dosage. And taken it for a long period of time is dangerous. It causes liver toxicity, and serious liver damage. Tylenol is one of the leading causes of liver failure in the United States, accounting for an estimated 450 deaths per year. I quit taking Tylenol years ago, I recommend you do the same. I found that Naproxen or "Aleve" is about the safest. Ibuprofen and asprin are hard on the kidneys.

I hope this has been helpful!!!

Have you had a hepatitis panel - Hep C, B, A -  for viral hepatitis?
That's usually one of the first tests performed with elevated liver enzymes.
