Please help me.. I am scared to death...

I am a female age 32.  I have been having pressure and pain on my right side.  I went to the doctor yesterday and was told I have janndice.  I went today and had blood work done and some of my test came back.  My Bili, Total was only .6 my AST was 36 and my ALT was 40 all within normal range.  I don't understand this.  I was advised that the CMP test would tell me if I had a liver disease or dysfunction.  They also did a hepatitis test and a liver test but those want be back for a couple of days.  I don't do drugs, or sleep around or anything like that.  The only thing I could think what it is would be my mediciations I am taking.  I am scared to death.  I don't know what to do.  I feel like I need to be looked at more in detail instead of waiting around.  I don't have a gallbladder that was removed in 05.  Could it still be my liver and it not show up on the CMP test?  I also had a CBC test done to and it wasn't that bad either.  I have also had weight loss, no desire to eat, and at times running a low grade fever around 99.  Please any input at all would greatly be appreciated.  Thank you so much... Susan...

Liver function tests tell us how the liver is working.  They are elevated when there is liver damage going on (alkaline phos) or when there is inflammation of the liver cells (AST, ALT).  So, in theory, if you had a gallstone that was decreasing blood flow, bile may build up and cause jaundice but may not be bad enough to cause a rise in liver function tests.

It may take some time to figure it out but be persistant.  A trip to the ER always sped things up when I was sick.  It took me 11 doctors and several months to find out what I had.  I have pain as well.  No jaundice though.

What about going to the ER?   Would your insurance pay for that?
Then they may possibly do a CT scan or an MRI?   If your in pain I don't understand why they won/t speed things up.

I went to Dr. the for post surgery pain on my foot on Friday the 18 and was sent for a CT scan on monday the 21 tomorrow is the 25 and I am going in for a bone biopsy to check on  infection possibility before they redo the surgery which did'nt work out. If I don't have infection they will do the surgey again on monday 28 or friday.

Another thing. My nephew . Who is my age. Had stones in the ducts that remain after gallbladder surgery. Of course I"m not sure of the diffrence in surgeries. Between the time when they did an open 7inch incision versus the way it is done now

Be insistant . That is where I failed many times. I'm finally learning. I bit late for me . Not to late for you. Hang in there.!!!!

Thank you so much for writing to me.  I am sooooooooo scared over this.  I went back to the doctor today with increased pain and I am running a fever, but my blood test showed no infection.  Also all of my test are not back as well.  I am waiting on a liver panel test that goes into more depth.  I ask the nurse today about the gallstones she said I would have to have my gallbladder to have the stones and that was taken out in 2005.  I am at the end of my rope with this.  My legs are not swollen, but my right side is killing me and my back on my right side is very sore as well.  It hurts me to lay on my right side.  I have lots of pressure and pain on that side.  As if something in there is pushing out..  I don't know what else to do.  They have ordered a ct scan but who know's when I will get that.  They are awaiting on my insurance.  I am just scared to death of what is going on.  You think the worse.  I have been thinking about cancer just everything at this point.  I am just so scared.  Thank you again.  I will pray for you..  Susan...

Sorry for your pain. have been living with hep c for over 13 years.Problems with side are almost daily.I am on end stage now but still active. The liver could cause some of your symptoms but would have to agree with cat on gallstones though. With your age and not in drugs scene greatly reduced your chances on hep.Janndice is possible however with the hep but I have not had had to deal with it myself yet.Do you have abnormal swealling in lower legs? If possible try to increase water consumption to releave pressure on liver. Wish you the best !!   keep the faith

Thank you so much for writing to me.  I have been up all night with my right side hurting me.  I have never drunk in my life or smoked.  They took lots of blood work Tuesday 10 tubes, and hepatitis was one of them plus another liver test those will not be back until Monday or Tuesday of next week.  I have RSD and was on zanaflex, loratab 10 three times a day, neourtin, and lidocain patches.  My gb was removed in 05 do you think I could have formed stones in my duct.  That was a problem I had after my gb surgery was gallstones in the duct.  I got to spend almost a month in the hospital and I had a stomach tube for over a month as well.  It was awful.  I just can't understand how I have jaundice and awful pain in my right side and my cbc and cmp test comes back  a little low on somethings and a little high on others.  Something you can look into for your pain is fentanyl patches they don't damage your liver any further and they are for the pain.  It might be something to ask your doctor about.  Thank you so very much for your thoughts and kind words.  My God bless you... Susan : I would't be to frightened at your age if you don't over indulge in drinking and don't do drugs.  Have they tested you for hepatitis A B C? If they are negative , don't hesitate to get vaccinated for A and B as soon as possible.

Another thought is you may have developed stones in the ducts that are left after the GB surgery. I don't know what kind of medications you take . I've been on medication for hypertention for years and all kinds of pain meds. Mostly tylenol and ibuprofin about 4 every hour for years.

Needless to say I have liver disease which was not diagnosed in time. I blame it on meds. I don't drink , smoke, and have never done illegal drugs. I don't have hep A,B,orC.  So I now have Cryptogenic liver disease. Unknown cause. Now I just have to suffer my arthritis pain neck pain foot pain and even migraines Without any kind of meds.So I'm awake most of the time because of pain. I pray you will be well and stay that way for many many years to come.   cat
