does these numbers together mean liver damage?

please help, my father in law had open heart surgery with a 5 bypass on monday 4 days ago, he still has not came out fully, he has not acted right since before he was sent home 4 days before his surgery, with medication called libriam (i may have spelled that wrong), he wont stay awake for more than a few seconds and one day he will reconize me or other family members, but then one day he dont know who we are, the hospital keeps saying one thing one day and a completely different thing the next day,  the dont understand whats going on no more than we do, or they keep saying maybe, maybe, maybe.... i need to know whats going on, he's 66 years old, never had surgery ever in his life, he has been an acoholic for most of his life, but when i suggested they check his liver, or kidneys they told me his levels was fine, i over heard the doctors in the hallway order the test on his kidney and liver, and these are what they found which of course they dont want to say nothing now, they also order some test to see if he may have had a stroke since he came out of surgery on monday, i also over heard them saying that, because they are not saying nothing to us, they are acting dumb.... PLEASE HELP

You might consider seeking legal representation to assess your options. You're in a difficult position with the knowledge of what your father-in-law wants, but his doctors will be simply doing their best to maintain his health.

they never had my father in law fill out a living will, but if some kind of miracle dont happen, he has told my husband and myself a thousand times that he dont ever want to be put on any machines nor would he ever want to be placed in a nursing home, he would not want this, he wouldnt want to be like the doctors are saying hes most likely going to be, but the hospital is not giving us an opition to even think about anything before they do it, my father in law is in and out of it, but not fully with it, but he has told me 5 times in the past 2 days to bring him his gun because its time to end all this.... my husband is having a very hard time with this, because he knows his father doesnt want this, me i think theres still a small chance he could turn this around, but only a very small chance, but my husband has gave up all hope he will and wants to fight the feeding tube (the doctors said the stroke has effected the abilility to swallow) but when my husband has said to the doctors he wants to think about the feeding tube, the doctors said theres nothing to think about they ARE DOING IT WEATHER HE LIKES IT OR NOT, and my husband lost it then and flipped out on them and i had to remove my husband from the hospital before it escalated      any further...

ok, the doctors have now told us my father in law had 2 strokes at some point after surgery or during surgery, they say there is no way to know when the strokes have happen, they first said they are both reversable, but now they said they did another mri yesterday morning and they say the large(3) veins or atriery in the back of the neck leading to the brain are clogged due to the stroke he has had, they also said "there is small plack like blood drops like one or two floating around in the area where the strokes happened, and there is nothing they can do, no blood thinners because its to soon from surgery, they are wanting to put a feeding tube in within a couple days, they also said its possible its going to be a most likely be there forever, and they are also saying he's never going to come out of this 100% and most likely going to have to go to a nursing home, because he will have to have round the clock care for the rest of his life, thats if he doesn't stroke again within a few remainding weeks that he will be in the hospital...

Great, his kidneys are doing well! Hopefully this will be an opportunity for him to turn things around and reduce the drinking.  The additional cancer with your mother-in-law is a difficult issue in addition, hoping for the best there too. We're here if things change, you do have much to deal with.

It seems that his doctors moved a bit too quickly into the bypass procedure. They seemed to have been aware of the heavy drinking and gave him the Librium beforehand to help him detoxify for his bypass. But this takes time, more than a few days. And moving ahead into surgery knowing that your patient may likely be suffering serious detox symptoms doesn't make much sense.

What you describe wrt his mental lapses and general incoherence maybe due to a stroke or it maybe due to his alcoholic hepatitis. Hopefully his doctors will get it straightened out soon. But the numbers you've posted do point towards alcoholic hepatitis along with decreased liver synthesis function, not good, especially for someone under going heart bypass.

You don't have any kidney numbers posted but the liver issues will have an impact on his kidneys. If you can let us know what his creatinine, BUN and INR levels are, we can tell you a bit more wrt his liver condition.

Hope things get stabilized and you get some answers soon, take care.
