Thanks for refreshing my memory Mike, now I remember when they were trying to put stints in my brother's liver but couldn't.
Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a chronic liver disease in which the bile ducts become inflamed and eventually scar. The bile flow can be impeded or shut off and sometimes a bile stent will alleviate the problem temporarily. Ursodiol seems to lower liver enzymes in patients but it has not been shown to extend the life of the liver. It is suspected that PSC is an autoimmune disorder and patients with PSC often have ulcerative colitis. This disease is more common in men than is women. The only definitive treatment for PSC is liver transplantation. I have a friend who was transplanted with PSC as her underlying disease 8 years ago and she is doing very well. She still has to monitor her colitis but her liver health is not an issue. I know that I said that PSC was more common in men but she was just unlucky.
Good luck,
Mike
what exactly is the disease, were you informed?
