complex liver cyst
What can you tell me about large complex liver cysts?
I'll soon be having a biopsy of an 8.5 cm. complex cyst on my liver. I also have smaller cysts on my liver and kidneys. I have no symptoms--everything was found by chance during an unrelated scan.
The biopsy will be conducted through my mouth and stomach into the liver by a surgeon who teaches this technique at our local UCSF med school, and who does 3 or 4 of these procedures per week.
I've already had an MRI, and a CAT scan is planned for 6 months from now.
Thanks for any information--this is all pretty scary for me.

most cysts are simple ones and do not need any intervention but the complex ones may harbor an infection or have had bleeding. Very rarely they can be pre-cancerous. is the procedure you're having done an EUS with FNA? if so, that is appropriate to sample the contents of the cyst.
