hair loss after transplant

hair loss after transplant

I am 4 months post liver transplant.
I am losing my hair a lot in these days.
Instead, I am getting hair growth on my arm and face.
I heard this is due to anti-rejection medications.
The median I am taking now :

1. Neoral   (75 mg, twice a day)
2. Prednisone (5mg , once a day)
3. Myfortic (360mg, twice a day)
4. Acyclovir (800mg, twice a day)
5. Baraclude (0.5mg, once a day)
6. Prenatab (multi-vitamin, once a day)
7. Calcium (300mg, Three times a day
8. Ursodioal  (300mg, three time a day)
9. Fluconazole (200mg*2pills, once a day)

Is that true that anti-rejection medication can cause hair loss ?
If yes, can it be recovered  as I reduce the dose ?

Thanks a lot

neoral definitely is associated with this type of hair growth.  the hair loss is probably related to telogen effluvium, which can occur this time post-transplantation.

Thanks Dr. Schiano,

This is what I have learned about "Telogen effluvium"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Telogen effluvium is a form of nonscarring alopecia characterized by diffuse hair shedding, often with an acute onset. A chronic form with a more insidious onset and a longer duration also exists.1,2 Telogen effluvium is a reactive process caused by a metabolic or hormonal stress or by medications. Generally, recovery is spontaneous and occurs within 6 months.

S, I expect it will recover in the end. Right ?
