micronodular periphery suggesting cirrhosis

by cynthia103, Aug 29, 2009 08:10PM
After years of having a enlarged fatty liver, I recently Had a follow up liver ultasound.
The findings are:

Common duct 5mm no dilated intrahepatic ducts. Liver is very poorly assessed becauce of the echo texture and patients body habitus.Size cannot be identified and there is difuse and mildly increased heterogenous echo texture suggesting chronic and or/fatyy changes. No obvious mass lesion identified. IT DOES HAVE
MICRONODULAR PERIHERY SUGGESTING CIRRHOSIS AND SIZES VARING UP TO 25CM WHICH IS MARKEDLY ENLARGED. No ascities is identified. No gross evidence of focal mass.
Impression:
limatation due to body habitus. Hepatomegaly with findings suggestive for: CHRONIC AND/ OR FATYY LIVER. Correlation reccommened.

Blood work :   Total  bili 0.5mg,Albumin 3.6gm, AST 22 UNITS,ALT 32 UNITS , A/G RATIO 0.8 L,Platlets 459,WBC 13.90,RBC 4.87,Ferritin 31ng, B-12 479 PG/ML,FOLATE 21.10

I am concerned about the suggestive findings for cirrhosis and the a/g ratio
What do you think ? should i be worried.I have pain in the right upper quad, history of, on and off alcohol and sub abuse. Any imput is welcome. Im terrified!!!!

the blood tests are all normal and ukltrasouinds arte very operator-dependent.  There definitely can be an overcall here and fatty livers are commonly enlarged and cause abdominal discomfort without being cirrhotic.  i recommend getting a CAT scan.

To: follow up with GI doc
Saw GI today. he ordered a liver/spleen scan.
Not a cat scan. Is this the best route to take, following up on a liver ultrasound suggestive of cirrhosis?

liver-spleen scans frankly are not very helpful.  Would still get the CT scan.
