Chronic Pain After Surgery

My Doctor told me I would still ahve some painafter the surgery.  The surgery was a total success!  The pain I am now expeinceing is nowhere near as bad as it was, however I am on Fentanyl Patches and Dilaudid 4mg uuu(up to 8 ills a day) as needed.  I was wondering if there is anthing else out there that is not quite as additive. Thank you in advance.

Hi,

You could talk about adding adjuvants (or adjunctive drugs) to your current treatment. This may mean drugs that are normally given for allergic reactions.

It would be a good idea to keep a pain diary, that would include marking the time the intake of oral medications or the application of patches, against the time that the pain occurs. Occasionally, the pain is not really due to lack of medication effect, but rather the waning of the dose of the medication (which may be amenable simple to increasing the dosage a bit).

Stay positive.
