Have a some questions now

For those of you seeing LLMD's do most of them prescribe the more powerful antibiotics for a longer period of time and how do they know exactly if this is the right time to do so being these spirochetes move around and then hide in the cells?  As I continue to read about this disease and it's treatment I also am concerned if too much antibiotic for 2 months is a long time for me since my outbreak just happened. (She has me on 2 different ones) I know a lot depends on ones health and I have not suffered the way most of you have.  I also talked to someone that had to be taken off the stronger antibiotics because of weight loss and possible damage to liver.  In other words , should I also be getting kidney and liver tests while on these antibiotics?  I should of asked my dr. this yesterday and I will at the next appt; but I was overwhelmed with all that she had to say.
Also how are you suppose to have the refrigerated probiotics from a health food store when all of them have some amount of sugar in them, including the plain Greek Goddess one? I take a Probiotic capsule but apparently that isn't enough as she said to take 30-50billion CFU's daily 3-4 hours away from the antiobiotics.
Any input on this would be most appreciated since now I am in the learning process about LLMD procedures.
Thanks

Milk thistle is a very good supplement to support the liver.

I forgot to mention that miso is also good for the gut.  I recently read an article about it.  It said, "Like most fermented foods, miso improves the balance of good flora in the digestive tract. This makes your digestion better, increases your ability to absorb nutrients from your food, and even improves your mood. In addition, fermented foods improve gut health by supporting good bowel movements, thus preventing constipation and diarrhea – a common problem these days for many people."

And you mentioned yogurt earlier.  Plain, whole fat yogurt will contain less sugar.  You can sweeten it with stevia.

You are so welcome!

The brand I recommended is pure and the company claims that it contains more cultures than the label says it has.  It also contains a broad spectrum of strains.

You can compare what you bought today and see which is best for you.

It just came through.  Thanks so much.  It is not the brand that I bought today.

I just sent you a private message with the info on the probiotics--brand name, recommended formula, website of company who will ship to you.  And also the phone number for the company who actually produces this brand so you can contact them directly in case there is some place near you that carries it.

Good luck to you in your treatment and recovery.

Okay, I had to try to set up a private message here to remember how to do it:

If you hover your mouse over the name of the person you want to send a private message to, there is a box that pops up with several options, including 'leave a note' and 'send message'.

If you click 'send message', a small box will open on the screen, and you type in the screen name of the person you are sending to (like my screen name is JackieCalifornia), then type your message, then hit 'send' or whatever the word is that means 'send.'  The message only goes to that person, not to the whole world out here reading this website.

Do be cautious about putting personal information, addresses, phone numbers, etc.  You never know who really is on the other side of the screen, so be careful!

You're right, the system here likely would block out phone numbers if posted directly in a message, but you can send a 'private message' through this system that is sent directly to the person, all of it using the screen names, like yours is pinelady.  As always, tho, be cautious online when sending any personal information -- you never really know who's out there.

About mentioning brand names, it might not get blocked, but then again it might.  It's all done by the computer system, so there's not much thought put into in, so who knows!  If something gets blocked, I think it usually will put asterisks in the blocked word, like d** instead of 'dog'.

I am thinking that on the next visit she will put me on the clot buster Flagl, which would mean 3 antibiotics for me.  I read where the LLMD's alternate 3 antibiotics by having you take the Flagl for a few days and not the other one or 2 in my case.  I hope she does testing for both liver and kidney.  My warning labels say to watch these 2 organs and that anyone age 65 and over should be extra cautious.  I am on a beta blocker which has lowered by bp a lot.  I am learning these antibiotics could cause heart failure. How will I know if I am herxing or having a heart attack? Guess I am reading too much at this point.
As for the probiotic, she underlined my print out about getting this refrigerated.  I heard that if these are not refrigerated they could loose their shelf life by the time it gets to us.

After seeing in todays paper that this health food store was going out of business the end of Aug, I decided to drive in and speak to her.  She had one left in the frig so naturally I bought it.   She recommended one brand in the future to get on-line.  I too have no idea if we can mention brand names on here.  I like the idea that your probiotic is shipped with ice.

If you can private e-mail me here that would be great.
Thanks

Hello,

My LLMD has had me on two different antibiotics for three months now in addition to the herbals. I acutally took the last antibiotic pill I had this past Monday. I am waiting to see what is next, but to answer the question you had about liver test, she tested my liver functions twice over the three months that she had me on antibitotics. And she told me to take at lest 50 billion units a day of probiotics but never said anything about refrigerated.

Good Luck

Does the health food store 21 miles from you have a vitamin department?  Maybe you could call them and ask if they have refrigerated probiotics before driving over.  You might try asking them if they do special orders for their customers.

As Jackie mentioned, you can order supplements and have them mailed to you.  You can purchase the brand I take online or by phone and they will be shipped packed in ice to keep them fresh.  I am still learning the rules here, so I am not sure if I am allowed to recommend brands on the forum. Maybe someone can clarify that for me.  But, I would be happy to give you the information such as the brand, website, phone number, etc. if you are interested.

Thanks mojogal,  I have read about the cystbusters and drugs used for them.  The new dr, also talked about them.  If these do not work I know my acupuncturist can assist with herb.  She was a rn at one time in her life and is horrified with western medical procedures and drugs.
Hope you are feeling better at this time.  I recall you are the one with thyroid problems like myself.

Thanks JackieCalifornia,  I am trying to keep a clear head on all of this and see the pros and cons of treatments.  The more people I talk to in my area the more I see that have Lymes and it has brought on the obvious other symptoms.  None of these people ever heard of a LLMD.

tiredofbeingfatigued, thanks for your input as well.  It is times like this I wished I still lived a big city where there is access to these types of stores.
I do have a bigger city 52 miles one way from here.
Thanks again!!!

Lyme goes into a cyst format to escape any killer, antibiotics or herbal. I was misdiagnosed over 25 years. Antibiotics didn't work for me so I am doing an herbal protocol. Either way, you need to take a cyst Buster too.. Since you caught this early, I am hoping you will get rid of it quickly.

Good luck

I hear you -- my motto in medication and other things is:  'Whatever works.'  :)

You may be able to order some supplements, vitamins, etc. through mail order.  I do that for most things, and it has worked well for me.

Bottom line:  Listen to your body, your doc, and your reasoning, and you'll do fine.  Take care, and keep us posted, okay?  Hurrah!

I get my probiotics from my local health food store in the refrigerated section of their vitamin department.  Three capsules contain 85 billion live cultures so you would only need two to meet your 50 billion quota.  These were recommended to me by a friend who is very picky and consumes no sugar, gluten, binders, etc

JackieCalfornia,  No they didn't forget to give me this info it was called "supplemential additions to aid healing".
She said to get a good probiotic from the refrigerated section of the health food store.  I only have one place 21 miles from me one way that has a refrigerated organic section.  I did buy the plain Greek Goodess yogurt but for 24 oz it has 15 grams of sugar.  I just found a place on-line that does carry the 30-50 billion probiotic capsules.  I know not to have anything like pastry, soda, etc.
I just ordered the book "Cure Unknown" that the dr. recommended.
You mentioned earlier that many lyme people are treating this disease with herbs, but you would still choose the antibiotics.
Upon reading Out of the Woods the main character went from many many drugs to the natural approach for healing this after she was misdiagnosed for many years.
I guess it is all personal opinion what will work best to beat this.
As always thanks for your input.

These are all good questions, and your doc may have specific recommendations about what brands and dosing and so on for each probiotic.  You could call and ask the nurse practitioner your questions -- they are often very helpful, and they may have it all written down for you to refer to, but forgot to give it to you.

(I know when I had Lyme that my memory was lousy, so I really needed things like that written down.  If they say they don't already have it printed, ask if they would do so for you because your memory is kind of spotty right now.  Spotty memory is common in Lyme ... but it gets better as treatment goes along!)

You ask:  "For those of you seeing LLMD's do most of them prescribe the more powerful antibiotics for a longer period of time and how do they know exactly if this is the right time to do so being these spirochetes move around and then hide in the cells?"

Good question!  The antibiotics are given for a period long enough to hit the bacteria enough times during their reproductive cycles (when their protective membrane splits to make new Lyme cells), so that the bacteria are killed off over a period of time until they are ALL dead.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
You ask:  "I also am concerned if too much antibiotic for 2 months is a long time for me since my outbreak just happened. (She has me on 2 different ones) I know a lot depends on ones health and I have not suffered the way most of you have."

Another good question!  Compared to other bacteria, Lyme bacteria have a looooong reproductive cycle, and it is when reproducing (and the cell wall is broken open) that the antibiotics can do some of their best work killing the bacteria.  I don't remember exactly how long I was on antibiotics, but it was months, not weeks, and I had two different treatments:  one to kill the Lyme bacteria, and the other to kill the babesiosis infection.

So it can indeed take a while, unlike most 'regular' bacterial infections, and it is the right approach.  The peril is in not treating long enough, because then the surviving bacteria start reproducing again, which can cause antibiotic-resistant bacteria, which is bad in several ways.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
You say:  "I also talked to someone that had to be taken off the stronger antibiotics because of weight loss and possible damage to liver.  In other words, should I also be getting kidney and liver tests while on these antibiotics?  I should of asked my dr. this yesterday and I will at the next appt; but I was overwhelmed with all that she had to say."

It's a good question.  Do ask your doc, but I'm guessing if any tests are part of the program, they will tell you at the appropriate time at a future appointment.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You ask:  "Also how are you suppose to have the refrigerated probiotics from a health food store when all of them have some amount of sugar in them, including the plain Greek Goddess one? I take a Probiotic capsule but apparently that isn't enough as she said to take 30-50billion CFU's daily 3-4 hours away from the antibiotics."

You could ask the doc's office what kind of probiotics they recommend, and ask if the capsules are enough.  You can also ask your grocery store if they have any yogurt without sugar, or try a health food store or a different grocery.  If they don't have it, then the doc's office should be able to tell you of a reasonable substitute.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That you are asking these questions is a REALLY good thing -- those bacteria don't have a chance!  :)  Keep us posted.
