Lyme and a Dental problems

I am curious to see how many people are having dental issues from Lyme?. I am, and it getting worse. I was up all last night from the pain. However I have heard of folks having to get their root canals pulled out because the spirochetes get in there. It's another area they love. Even getting the tooth pulled and getting implants doesn't work for everyone. I am thinking of just pulling mine. Frustrating as the whole disease is!

I have Lyme and have had issues with cavities.  But then I had some of the most infected teeth cleaned out and capped and I started rigorous flossing, brushing, and faithful use of Listerine at bedtime.  Because my CPAP machine causes a great influx of air into my mouth at night which was drying out my teeth, I also started wearing toothguards to keep my teeth moist at night (the toothguards are actually whitening trays made for me in a dental office).  It is also possible and good to swish with peroxide before bedtime.  I also had a fluoride coating applied annually at every dental checkup (but I won't do that any more because I read that fluoride increases arterial calcification).  All these things really helped me stop the Lyme assault on my teeth.

Yes I am like you. I can't stand touching the tooth. Right now I look like a half sided pumpin. Half of my face and neck are very swollen.

I am so glad to hear you are in remission! Congrats to you!

For me, the systemic inflammation incurred by my Lyme disease caused tooth pain and hypersensitivity.  I tried to go to the dentist during the worst of my Lyme and winced with pain to just have the tools touch my teeth!

I ended up not getting regular cleaning for years, and as the above poster practices, I just brushed/flossed and used listerine religiously and hoped for the best.  Thankfully, I only had one cavity after years of skipped cleanings.

Now that my Lyme is improved/gone/in remission (I really don't know!), I don't have the high sensitivity issue.

Oh, and JC has some good advice about finding a dental school...I did that at times in my life when I didn't have coverage and I was happy with the results.

If there is a dental school nearby (as in, one that trains dentists, often connected to a college or university), they may be helpful ... and free.  I've known people who did that and were satisfied with the results.  Just a thought.

I am using essential oils on the bad tooth and hoping for the best since I don't have dental insurance.
