Lyme talked about on Mystery Diagnosis

Did anyone else here see that show? It was so interesting about a man who had heart problems, fevers, fatigue, depression, and lower back pain. He went to many ER's and many doctors and was always misdiagnosed. He was told several times he had anxiety disorders. He literally felt like he was going to die. Finally it took this one rhuematologist who came up and diagnosed as Lyme even though he had been tested negative before. She gave him and spinal tap and that's how they discovered it. She was interviewed and explained that there is not one test that is completely accurate for Lyme and she said that not even all the strains have even been discovered yet. He had encephalitis on his brain too. She also said there is also different treatment regiments for different cases and that not one size fits all.
This gives me hope and it was good program to finally see a doctor who came out and said that the tests are not accurate and so forth and there's many different views on the whole subject.

Seems like Mystery Diagnosis features Lyme quite often -- at least three separate shows so far. I've only seen the one with the teenager who was finally diagnosed when her parents sent her abroad with other sick teenagers. There was someone there who said "hey, you also have what I have" She did test negative at first because the infection was "hiding" according to that one doc. I saw this before all this and kind of thought "wow, that's really weird" and I wondered if she was going to be okay. Was looking for that happy ending but the ending of the show was pretty open ended. She graduated from high school and that was huge after the ordeal she went through. She ran track and was impacted by this at first by having heart problems if I recall correctly.

I am glad others here like this show. Thanks to the power of Tivo I can record any shows related to Lyme *lol* Yes, I get the same comfort almost that I am not the only one with the mystery illness and hopefully I am one step closer myself to getting proper treatment.

I thought it was so great this doctor was interviewed and confirmed all of our suspicions on Lyme like diagnosis and treatment methods and so forth.

I also haven't seen that particular episode, but I can testify that Mystery Diagnosis helped me keep my sanity in general while in "Limbo" without a diagnosis!

I don't have cable right now, but will look for it online.

The squeaky wheel does get the grease, if you know that you are sick, keep looking for the cause.

In general, I've read that CFS isn't a very reliable test for Lyme, so it's interesting that is how they found it.  My CFS was tested for Lyme (through the main reason for the LP was to rule out MS) and it was negative, in July '08.

I missed that show, but Mystery Diagnosis had another episode that featured a teenager who had lyme disease. It took her years before she was finally diagnosed, especially since her first lyme test was negative. (but we know better... don't we ? ; ^ )   )  She wasn't diagnosed until she went to Spain on vacation and met another teenager who had the same symptoms and who had been tested and treated for lyme disease. By the time this teenager was diagnosed, her fingers were all curled up !
