neck cracking

I think someone mentioned this before about cracking joints

My neck cracks whenever I turn (and especially tilt) my neck. When I put my ear to my shoulder a crack will sound and often more that one crack at a time. I also notice when I turn my head from side tio side, there is a grating sensation where it feels like my neck bones are rubbing up against each other. It's not painful but weird!

What is the difference between "normal" neck cracking and "abnormal" neck cracking?

If you google/search 'lyme herbal remedies' there are a lot of hits.  I am just venturing in that direction after having a bad reaction to some antibiotics, and it's more effective (at least so far, in the short term) than I expected.

The Back of my neck when rubbed makes a grinding sound, Ive aslo got the ear to neck crack as well. Its good to know that others face this issue. Ive had Lymes since I was about 17 and im now 25 with no insurance. Most insurance wont cover me for lymes as Im in Mass, if anyone knows any home remedies im all ears(or eyes)..

I sounded like walking on dry sticks in the woods.  Not just my neck though.  I'm not as bad now but my neck still cracks despite having a spinal fusion.

My neck pops too.  Mostly when  put my ear towards my shoulders.  I have a lot of pain in my neck and shoulders.  But I've always considered to be stress/ tension.  Last time I got a massage the lady said my muscles in my neck and shoulders were REALLY stiff and tense.

Mine too, but since I've been under abx treatment, it's largely gone away.  I still can make it snap, esp when I've been sitting too long at the computer, but the tightness and stuffiness that was there before is largely gone.  I agree that it's probably inflammation and swelling.

At my last LLMD appointment, I listed "popcorn neck" as one of my persistent physical complaints.

Though I've often read that it is a symptom, I'm not clear on the underlying cause(s).  I know I have a lot of problems from inflammation, so I figure that's part of it.

I have a friend (without Lyme) who cracks his neck a lot.  He has to turn his head a certain way, and it's a single pop that I can hear.  With me, when I just move my neck within even a small range of motion I get a lot of grinding/popping noises, but they are not so loud that others hear it.

Pure conjecture, but that's my experience.

your 'neck' noises sound exactly like mine - started 3 years [approx.] following a tick bite - it is horrible/scarey - I guess after all this time I should be 'used' to it - I'm not !

I would say I have 'abnormal' neck cracking.

It is not bones rubbing together, it is to do with the tendons/ligaments  - this is what a 'chiropractor' told me.

Necks are very sensitive to stress/tension.
