unusually late period but negative pregnancy test?

Hi! It's my first time posting--hello everyone!
Just have a question that someone might be able to help with...
Ever since I got married I have had a VERY regular 28 day menstrual cycle--never late, never early.
We are trying to get pregnant, and today I am at least five to six days late for my period.
I did a pregnancy test this morning that came up negative.
How reliable is that result since I usually have such a normal cycle?
I don't have any other symptoms besides frequent urination and butterflies in my stomach that could just be from the excitement of the whole situation.
So I guess my question is whether or not it is "worth it" to take another pregnancy test; if so, when; or, what else could even be the cause of such a delay in my usually predictable period?

i would wait a little bit longer then get tested again, a blood test would be more accurate! that way you will know for sure!
when i first got pregnant i went to the dr and got tested every week each of them come back negative then i finally went in for a blood test and found out i was 5 and a half weeks along, a blood test would settle this for sure!

You start menst. about 14 days after ovulation, so if you ovulated late this cycle due to stress sickness or just because, your period would come late.  It could also mean your preggo!

I'm sure this isn't what you want to hear, but my last cycle was 36 days and the one before it was 29, so I kept testing thinking I was, but then AF reared her ugly head!  Anyway, don't keep wasting money on testing- wait a few days before testing again, or as suggested go to the doctor for a blood test.  Take care!

Just putting my two cents in on this issue, because I'm having this problem right now. I'm 34 and have an 11 year old from a previous marraige.  My periods have been every 28 days, literally to the minute.  Now here I sit, nearly a full week late, and I break down to buy one of those HPT's and the thing comes out negative.  I keep feeling like I'm going to get my period and nothing...day after day.  I'll post again with the blood test results, because I'm going in for one tomorrow.  Obviously from the other posts, it can be possible to test negative on an HPT but then positive with a blood test (that's what I'm secretly hoping).  When I took a preg test for my son years ago, I swear the 2nd line showed up even before the urine hit the stick! LOL

I am kind of in the same boat. My last menstral cycle was in September .. and it is now Nov. 25 and still nothing. I feel pregnant, but I just took a blood test yesterday and it came up negative. How odd huh? I don't know what to do about it. I know that I am pregnant and definitely feel it. I have had one prior pregnancy, and hope this is another one. Can blood tests be wrong ?

I think  His gorgeous Angel is living proof that tests can come up negative and you could still be pregnant.  She first posted on 11/10 saying the tests were negative then posted on 11/21 saying that she is 3 months pregnant.  So, there is always hope.  Good luck and keep us posted.

My last period was on October 29, 2003 my periods prior to that were Sept.29,2003 and Aug 31,2003, they all lasted for 5 days. I tracked my fertile days for three months and was sure that I ovulated on Nov 12,2003 I had all the ovulating symptoms. I also had unprotected sex on Nov 11,2003. I went to the doctor on Dec.1,2003 and they gave me both a urine and blood pregnancy test that came back negative. I've been having mild cramps from time to time but I really don't feel pregnant. My stomach is still flat and I always feel empty other than that I'm normal. What are my chances of still being pregnant?

Hello, My last period was on November. I never miss a period. I feel different, so I think that I am pregnant. I have been with nausea, back pain and a lot of things. I got two blood test negative.  Now, my doctor prescribed me the medroxyprogest 10mg. If I take the pills, it will risk my pregnancy.

I feel quite comforted to read I'm not the only one with this problem! i've always had v regular periods, every 32 days, but last month I was 5 days late. This month I started using the Persona hormone testing device that tells you when you ovulate and according to that I ovulated (I could see the blue strips on the stick clearly) on the 2th or so - three weeks ago!!! I'm now on Day 39 of my cycle (no period although I have sore breasts and am grouchy which is what happened last month before coming on). Finally this-morning I did a pregnancy test and it was negative. I really don't think I'm pregant but where in the world has my period gone???

well you would not believe how delighted I was to stumble accross this thread.  I too missed my period last month I was due Dec 13th and still to this day nothing.  I am trying to fall pregnant but took 2 home preg test followed up by a blood test, all NEGATIVE!!  Where has AF gone?  I am always 31 day cycle, never missed a period in my life, not stressed or worried about anything, I had all classis symptoms of pregnancy but strangely when all tests came back negative the symptoms dissapeard which makes me think it was in my head.  Being caught up in the holiday season I really did forget about ovualtion and trying to fall pregnant so would ahve been the perfect time to actully conceive without putting much stress on it.  I have been trying for 9 months now amd really thought this was it!  I begin to wonder after 9 months if it hasnt happend yet is it going to??  In Australia where I live they will not begin looking at fertility problems until 12 months of genuine trying so I can only wait.  I dont feel at all like my period is going to start where has it gone.  I was wondering if you still ovulate if you miss a period, does anyone know?  I have been doing BD every other day just to make sure I dont miss an ovulation. hhmmmm  wondering ........

My period is regular to the second. We have been trying for a baby so i have been monitoring my ovulation dates and we had intercourse at exactly the right time. And my period was late. I thought we had hit the jackpot but we did 2 tests and one was negative, the other positive. Then a week later i started to bleed. The doctor says  probably we got a fertilized egg but it failed to implant. Now im worried i'll never have a baby.

Hello, I am kinda in the same boat with everyone else.  I am very regular with my cycle. I am kinda of confused...on Dec. 7th my fiance and I had sex and we did slip up....I came on my cycle which was early the following day....it was very light pink..I always stay on for 5 to 6 days, but only stayed on for 3 days.  So counting up from the 8th of Dec.  I should have stared my cycle on Jan. 4th...now I am two days late...I have also taking some test and they all came out negative.  This same thing happened when I was pregnant with my daughter...I took several pregnacy test and they were all negative....I went to the doctor and they told me that I was four months preg....I do plan to go to the doctor this week, but could I still be pregnant....I also have all the symtoms.  My breast are sore, I have gained a ton of weight, I crave sweets, I go to the restroom every 5 to 10 minutes...What do you think?

My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant - charting ovulation, ect - and now I am 12 days late!  I have taken a pregnancy test almost every day since my period was late.  They have all been negative.  It is very frustraiting, not to mention expensive.  I want to make a doctor's appointment, but I am scared that my period will start.  Any advice?

So great to find this site - My story is that I was diagnosed with PCOS about 20years ago, (I'm 39yrs now) but for the last 5 years have been as regular as clockwork.  In 2001, I fell preganant by 'accident', thinking that it wouldn't happen 'naturally', my husband and I were of course delighted.  Our daughter is now 2.5yrs old and we decided to start trying for No. 2 in the Dec 03 cycle, as I know exactly when I'm ovulating, can read my mucas etc. My last period was on 25 Nov 03, it is now Jan 16th 04 and haven't had a period since 25/11/03.  I went for both a urine and blood test 1st week Jan and both were negative.  I have been very crampy, boobs feel full and have been extremely tired, plus my abdomen seems 'swollen' and feel sure I might be pregnant, but no real medical evidence to prove it!!??.  I did a home urine test yesterday, and it was negative again !  feeling down and not really sure what's going on as this seems highly irregular, particularly given that we were 'officially trying in Dec and no period since ?!.  Plan to go back to the Dr at the end of Jan 04.  I have heard so many stores about negative tests (both urine and blood) when people actually were pregnant ! Any comments/feedback welcome.

    I am 5 days late on my period, have tender breast, and crampy.  I had very light spotting between periods, approximately 10 days ago.  I took a HPT and it was negative.  I am always like clockwork and have NEVER been late, except for my first pregnancy 7 years ago, which resulted in miscarriage.  I am confused and concerned because I am 35, I have blocked fallopian tubes and my chances of becoming pregnant are through IVF.  I guess I am hoping for a miracle but again, I am also concern because if I am not pregnant, could I be experiencing Ovulation failure? Please share your thoughts

I had done more than 14 pregnancy test with the same results negative, My appt. with the doctor is on Jan. 27. I cant't hardly wait. I am 41 years old waiting to have my second baby. Should I give up!

I am so glad I found this site. I had a misscarriage in October 2003, so my husband and I waited until I had 2 normal periods before we tried again. My last period was December 12 and I am very regular(every 28 days)so I am about 13 days late. I have taken 3 pregnancy test all have come up negative. I have four children and am now late on my period (around 5 days late) I usually have fairly regular periods, however the last two weeks I have been suffering from swollen breasts, extreme nausea at various times in the day, exhaustion and an aversion to alcohol (this only usually happens when I am pregnant).

You would think after having four children I would 'know' the feeling of pregnancy and I do, but have taken two hp tests and both come up negative, had some cramping and very slight blood stained clear mucus on the day my period should have arrived but nothing else.   This is driving me insane, my body is telling me i'm pregnant but the tests are saying no, please can anybody offer any advice.

Wow, I'm so happy I've found this site.  I have a 7 month old son, and when I found out I was pregnant with him, I had the same symptoms as I will be describing below.  

I'm currently on day 38, and no AF yet.  I usually get my period anywhere from day 29-31.  I've had TERRIBLE heartburn lately, extremely emotional (alot more than usual) and of course late period.  I've taken two HPTs and they both came back negative.  I'm thinking to wait a week, then take another.  If I don't get my period, and not pg, I will contact my dr.

I too am sailing in the same boat. Have had regular periods all along but am now on day 46 and still no sign of it happening.

My pregnancy tests are negative and I havent been feeling very pregnant. I have a 2yr old son and when I conceived him I got a positive result on a HPT on day 37. My GP is not interested in even doing a blood test. Cant really stand the suspense any longer...any suggestions....

i'm really glad i found this post - i am in the exact same situation and you all sound so positive that it gives me hope.

I am a 28 day cycler by the book, O on day 14 and all that good stuff. Well this month AF decided to play peek a boo. She was due 2/18 and it's now 2/23. I'm 16 DPO today and am still getting BFN on HPTs (early response ones too!) With DS I took the HPT at 22 DPO just because it was the holidays and I didn't have time to obsess like I do now LOL.

I've thought I was getting AF on 2/21 - spot of pinkish reddish on TP and then nothing but 2 brown TPs after that. I am scared to go have a BT because I don't want it to be absolutely negative yet...this way I still have some hope.

Anyway, I'm just glad that I'm not alone. Thanks :)

I was also glad to come across this thread.  I would love to hear any updates on how things have turned out for other.  I am 30 and a mom of 2 boys.  I have had fertility problems in the past.  Blocked tubes so I am definately concerned that if I am pregnant that it could be a tubal pregnancy.  I am only 6 days late but with the other 2 pregnancies had early positives.  Now I took a home test when I was 3 days late- negative and a blood test 5 days late- negative too.  They wanted to start me on provera but I wanted to do a little research first.  I was having many pregancy symtoms along with the late period such as feeling tired all the time, nasea,and my husband and family even said that I had the pregnancy glow.  Then I got the call today, very frustrating.  Then I started felling like I might start.  This evening, I had very light spotting - would have missed it if I was not looking, but nothing ever since.  I have a call in to another doctor for a second oppinion too.  But would love to hear what has happened in similar situations.  Could I be pregnant even with the neative test and very light spotting.  Could it be a misscariage or a tubal pregnancy, or just a late period.  I am so confussed.  Thanks for all who respond and can relate!  Good luck to all!

I had a missed miscarraige back in Sept. at 12 weeks pregnant. My husband and I have been trying to concieve since with no avail. :(I have had regular periods since I was 14 years old. Even after my miscarraige. Here I am 3 days late, feel pregnant and have still not seen an inkling of a sign that my period is on it's way. I have taken 4 tests and they're all negative. I'm not stressed. Has anyone out there been pregnant and had false negatives? I'm looking for a light at the end of this tunnel. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi.  Am turning 43 next month and having been trying for a baby for more than 3 years but no success.  Have been posted to the Middle East and decided to try my luck again.  Took Clomid for more than 4 months, with injections to stimulate ovulation and follicle built-up.  Even tried AI.  No luck!  Had my tubes tested last month and it was found that the left one was completely blocked ..... and that was my best ovary!  However, am 2 weeks overdue .... and I am never late!.  Took 2x HPT which were negative and followed up with blood test ... still negative.  Do not feel signs of monthly starting but feel very tired and irritable and my breasts are sore.  Dr sent me for blood test & results showed LH 6.37 and FSH 6.11 (think latter may be in that I have been taking follicle supplements).  Dr stated that this combination even excluded invitro and sent me off with a sympatheic pat on the back! I wondered if I had perimenopause but don't show the symptons.  Help!

How many days late are you?  If you are, it may still be too early for the HCG level to get detected in a HPT.  Have you thought about getting blood work done?

Some women don't show that they are pregnant in a HPT till they are many weeks far into the pregnancy.  However, try not to stress about it too much (even though I know its difficult) because our minds have a way of playing tricks on us.

I wanted to be pregnant so badly about 5 months ago and had all the symptoms, I didn't even get my AF which is always on time.  Went for blood work and all and thats when I got the definite answer that I wasn't.  The next day AF came along and I was about 9 days late.

Hang in there and the best way to find out is to go to the doctor and check!

I am also wondering where my period is. I am 27, it is usually right on 28-29 day mark and now I am on day 33, almost one week late. I feel all the symptoms or that it may come on any second. Light cramping, also soreness everywhere. I have taken a few home tests and they are all negative so i will get a blood test this week if I still have no bleeding. I wonder how accurate the home tests are, I drink a lot of fluids and wonder if i dilluted the urine so the hormone isn't showing up on the test if I am indeed positive/pregnant.

I know that it is difficult but please try not to stress about it too much.  You doctor will not give you something that will abort your baby.

You may suggest that since you haven't had your period for 2 cycles to ask your doctor to do an ultrasound. But if you took a blood test recently and it came out negative then you defintely are not pregnant.
You just might not be ovulating the way you should.  Have you been using any birth control that may still be in your system?

If you are not ovualting then your doctor would give you something to help you regulate your system, not to harm you.

I need some advice because I’m getting a little concerned. Since having started the pill (about a year and a half ago), I have been 28 days to the day (sometimes it even seems like the hour). But last month (Feb), I took a couple of pills extremely late in the day and I did have sex during my inactive pill week… I didn’t even think about it until my period came late. Well I thought I had it on the day, but it turned out to be spotting (and I usually have very heavy periods with a lot of cramping and bloating so I know that this wasn’t my period) and after a day or so with very light spotting, it went away. I tend to have spotting mid-month too so it didn’t really worry me – except that my actual period never came. I’ve been peeing constantly and have been having a little bit of light cramping which doesn’t feel like normal period cramping so I took a HPT 3 days after I was due and it came up negative. I will probably try it again in 3 or 4 days and if it comes out negative again and I still don’t have my period, I’ll see a doctor. Has anyone else had this happen before… missing a period and spotting a little instead? What did it turn out to be? I haven’t been very stressed lately, but it could always be something as simple as that. Thanks!

I am 23 years old and trying to ttc for a 3 months now with no luck. My periods or irregular but I usually have it every month.. but in July it didn't come at all and I had no pms symptoms or anything cause I usually do with the cramps and all.. So I took a three hpt and all were negative. Then on August 1st I has some light pinkish discharge so I assumed I was going to start. It went from pink to light red then brown and it only lasted for 2 and half days and my periods are always heavy and last anywhere from 5-7 days. So 2 days after the bleeding stopped, I took another hpt and this one also came out neg. I've been tired, nauseous and frequent urination. What the heck is wrong with my body? I wanted to go to the doctor and have me and my fiance checked out to see if we are healthy enough to concieve but I don't have any health insurance. Is anyone in the same boat as me? Tell me there's hope!

I've had no signs that i'm pregnant except a slight pain in my lower back at night always round about bed time and i would normally get pains a week before my period is coming and i've had none of those signs! Hi I am really worried because I am on day 42 of my cycle and I still have no period.  My husband and I were planning on starting next month TTC so this month we only had protected sex (and not very much of it at all) so I find it hardly unlikely that I am pregnant....but then where is my period?  I have done several things this month that would make it veyr unhealthy for me to be pregnant right now...but could they also be causes for my missed period?  I went to a party where I had four vodka shots and I have been drinking wine with dinner almost every night...things I was planing to not do at all starting next month.  I also competed in a Tough guy competition which involves climbing obstacles, swiming in disgusting muddy water and flinging myself over things.  I also donated bloodon day 15...woudl this cause me not to ovulate???  Any answers are much appreciated...thank you.

I haven't been regular for over a year. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 11 months. The longest my cycle has been is 42 days. Today is the 76th day. I've taken five pregnancy tests, all are negative. I go to the doctor on Aug 31st for a blood test. I'll let you know the result, maybe it will help someone out with a decision. I just hope nothing is seriously wrong. If there is something wrong where I can't have kids we will adopt. If you are pregnant and don't want your baby, PLEASE don't abort. I am engaged to be married I have a son from a previous marriage and my fiance has a daughter from his previous relationship so I don't think there are any fertility problems. I stoped taking the pill a month ago I had my period on August 5th and it was normal it lasted for 5 days I have a very regular 28 day cycle and nothing has changed... However now I was supost to get my period on september 2nd and it is not the 5 and there is still nothing there. I have taken 5 home pregnancy tests hoping for a positive result and 3 our of 5 were negative and the other 2 were invalid results... I went to the doctor this morning and he gave me a urine test and it too came out negative and he said it could be stress delaying my period. I haven't been feeling well... verry tired, hungrier then normal, gained a bunch of weight. What should I do? I am going to go back to the doctors on monday if there is still nothing and ask him for a blood test! But I still don't understand this is it possible to be pregnant with hCG levels so low that they are not detectable? sounds l like you might be pregnant. sometimes the hpt is always negative and the blood test will come up positive. it is rare that some people have experienced this problem. the dark clotting and creamy discharge, nauseous and cravings are the sypmtoms of pregnant. once u take a prenatal vitamins, this will help eliminate nauseated and its normaly to have strange cravings. See you doctor soon and get a blood test to confirm. Good Luck

Your period might be skipping because you are working out so hard and stressing out. Maybe when the competition is over, work out lightly, take it easy and keep eating healthy diet. Try not to stress. If this does not help or did not come in few weeks or a month after the competition, might want to try the doctor just to be safe. Hope it goes well with your competition.

Sounds like you might have endometrosis or pcos (polycystic ovary syndrome) I have both. I have experienced missing periods. getting lower back stabbing pain a week before my period comes. Thought I was pregnant but came up negative. Talk to your doctor about testing your hormones, if its high, its positive for the pcos, it is treatable if you take the antidiatbets medication to shrink the small cysts and make them go away. the back pain will be gone but will have to keep up with the diet and exercise. As women get older, our bodies change alot, we have to keep up with our body otherwise it will be out of control. Talk to you doctor soon as possible to test for pcos, glucose, anything else that might be related to it?

go see the doctor soon as possible, the blister should be treated right away without getting it bigger. and ask the doctor what is it? does this cause you to skip your period? The blister sounds like it might be related to yeast infection, im not sure, my friend had it and treated it right away by oral medication. She was fine after that, she had problems missing her  periods in her past.

Now, about me. I dont know if anyone has this same problem as me. I have missed my period for 2 months now. My last day of period was July 9th. The urine test for pregnancy was positive once. Got the blood test, it was negative. Went to ob specialist, the urine test was neg, the blood test was neg. I was experience cramping, not hungry hungry, I felt some movement. Still no period for a whole month, went back to my doctor, we did some test on hormone levels and glucose. I am not obese but im slightly overweight and need to lose 50 lbs. am working on that right now. But the hormone test came back positive, I have pcos Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, the biggest cyst on my right is 1.26cm. They dont know how many cysts i have on my right side as i normally feel sharp pain but my left ovary is fine. Doctor put me on prescription of provera for 10 days. The last day was friday and my period never came. I am worried and today im experiencing tight cramping ever, i could barely walk, no period. Anyone have experience this problem before and have gotten better, please send me a message of what to do or what happened? I am planning to see my doctor tomorrow if my period never arrives as I am worried and stressed out from school. oh forgot my glucose is a healthy 92 as my doctor was shocked as my weight, i think it has to do with muscles. I used to play tennis straight 4 years and was able to keep up with working out. i weighed 150 lbs at that time when i graduated from high school, i was very slim and musclar. but stopped working out about 5 years ago. I didnt know that i have pcos that would make me gain weight. Doctor thinks I had pcos for a while, it got this big. my left ovary volume is almost a 6 and my right ovary volume is a 14. There is a difference that concerned my doctor and trying everything to get it treated right away. im currently taking antidiabetes to shrink the pcos. might be a while and have always been on a healthy diet. the problem is working out as i dont have the time. Need to make it more effort for my sake.

However it is the 28th today and I should be getting another period on the 30th or sept. Im not going to though I know that for a fact. My doctor has schedualed me for an ultersound on October 10th... I am hoping I am pregnant. I have all the symptoms. My financies ex had the same problem they told her she wasnt then it was gas, then they said it was a sist on her overies.. then she got really bad cramps and went to the hospital and she was three months pregnant it showed up on the ultersound but not the blood or urine tests. Ok, I am a week late with my period, and i have no signs of it coming. for about a month I thought I have been. All day nausea, dizziness, FATIGUE, and in the past week i feel like my boobs have suffered a major baseball bat attack. i have had many other of the preggo symptoms.But two HPTs were negative and the lab blood test was too. Then the doctor suggested I had diabetes or low thyroid, and those came back  negative. I have an appointment for an abdominal ultrasound to see if it is anything else. But my cycle is usually 22- 25 days and sometimes (twice a year) 28 days. I am now at 33. I realize that is not alot, but stress has always brought it early (Prom day, wedding day, etc.) never late! Hi Ladies. I am having the same issue. My last period was on August 26th. My periods are always right on time. My last cycle was 33 days, and so was the one before that. Now it's October 3rd, and I am 6 days late and on day 39 of my cycle.
I have taken three HPTs and all have come up negative. I have been dizzy, naseous, my breasts are tender, I have been peeing a lot, I am very moody, my appetite is all screwy (I had saltine crackers with peanut butter for dinner the other day), my skin has broken out more than normal, I have had headaches, and I'm tired all the time.
I haven't change anything about my diet, my exercise, I'm not sick or stressed out.
I'm starting to be come really confused, as this is the latest my period has been.
Any ideas or advice for me?

Oh my gosh, my last period was Aug 25th and I am late... I have taken 3 tests and all were neg. So I am going to get blood work done to be sure...I am always irregualr and I am on my 2nd cycle of Clomid. I am not depending on the fact that I am late becuase I am always late, sometimes 2 monthe. But the symptoms that I am having are not normal for me at all...mild cramps like period cramps but very faint, pain in breasts and nausea...and the other day for the first time I really thought I was going to throw up from the smell of the Chinese my coworkers were eating...My nausea seems like it is getting worse, and I feel dizzy all the time. It usually starts after I eat beeafast and then I don't want to eat anything else. I think the best thing for us it to get the blood work to be sure...

How long are your cycles normally? 28 days? 30 days? This will give you a better idea of when you SHOULD have started, then you can detirmine how late you are. My cycles are typically 33 days, and I am now on day 41, so I am 8 days late. I would suggest making an appointment with your doc to get a blood hCG level done. These are more accuate than a urine hCG test. I am going in today to get it done, so we'll see what happens.
Do you have any of the classic pregnancy signs?

I called my doc. to get a blood test done, and she told me no. Keep in mind, I am 29 days late! She said it is not "medically necessary to have a blood test done if my home tests are coming up negative." I think it's ****, but I dunno.

I would check with your doc and see if you can have a blood test done. It could be that you've just missed a period for no reason.

Hi im new to this site and so far its been very comforting ...I am two months late on my period but its been three months since my period so I guess tech im 3 months late I don’t know but anyways I took pregnancy tests all were negative and I took two blood tests each week all negative and now my doctor put me on progesterone for 10 days I took it once then stopped right away because I was worried I might be Prego...I have an ultra sound this Friday to see whats causing all this and im hoping im pregnant...is it possible that I could still be pregnant and get negative tests? And if so why that is some women don’t show up? I will keep all you informed and give you tips from my doctor this Friday…also ever since I had my first child I have had heavier more regular periods and no more painful cramping why is that?? Hey everyone, sorry it has taken me so long to get back on here with my news but I have been busy. Anyways I was talking about how my urine test was negative and then my blood test was negative and my doctor didnt really want to send me for an ultersound say it was likley just stress, however I told him I couldnt be sure until I had the ultersound so he sent me and sure enough the ultersound came back positive for pregnancy, everything looks normal and healthy, I was 7 weeks and now almost 13 and am going to the prenatal clinic in two weeks. Someone on here said she had missed two periods and her doctor was giving her some kind of medication, just be carful make sure you have an ultersound to prove your not pregnant before taking medications for what could be the problem. also this proves it is possible to have a pregnancy with little to no hcg level too low to detec anyways. My doctor told me it wasnt possible to have a negative blood test and urine test but postive ultersound. However I just proved to him it is possible, rare but possible so be careful please and make sure you KNOW for sure your not pregnant before you let your doctor give you medication for what could be causing your late or missed periods. Thank you for the update!  Knowing that HCG levels could be low to nil makes a huge difference to me, Im pretty sure I am but after 2 negative tests, thought maybe I was crazy LOL.  My family thinks I could be, but my BF is a nurse, and thinks its just duress.  I have had  a few other symptoms such as while making food, thought Id upchuck at the sight and smell.  Pain in my breasts off and on, but not consistantly.  Ive had 2 miscarriages and 1 full term (daughter is now 8).  This maybe my last hope at ever having another child so Im hopeful, but not overly anxious.  With her my gut knew almost as soon as we had sex I was in fact pregnant, even knew it was a girl.  This time feels the same but cant get it to show up on a test.  Im 30 yrs old, and dont want her to be an only child.  So keep your fingers crossed for me

I am a happy mother of 5 beautiful children ranging from 17 to 1. I have been married to the father of these wonderful children for 16 years and last month my husband had a vesectomy (vasectomy). I was very disappointed and would have had another child. We listened to many lecture about don't we know what causes this and are you ever gonna stop. I am truly greatful and know that I am so lucky but still feel so sad. Well now to make things more crazy I am very very regular and my period is very heavy, this month it was only a couple hours long and so light and light in color also. My period is 8 days late. I am a 29-31 day-er, never earlier or later. We are trying to get pregnant, and I am scared because they did an ultrasound last week and the tech found a small cyst on my R ovary.(They can not tell if you are pregnant by ultrasound until you are at least 6 weeks along, which I would not be yet.) I've taken two pregnancy tests, but both were negative. It makes me nervous to be this late and I have all the symptoms of being pregnant,(I have had two previous kids) the sore breasts, moody as all-get-out, and the feeling  like I am about to start any day. I think I will call my OB, to schedule and exam with a blood panel work-up to make sure everything is all right. Any ways, please post when you all find out whether you find something out or not!

I know it is frustrating when TTC. My husband and I decided to try after the new year. I got my period Feb 5th but not since. Now i'm 6 days late and all tests are negative. I bought a whole bunch of the early pregnancy tests that are suppose to detect 20 mlu's of the hormone but still nothing. After all the reading i've done and stories above it seems quite frequent that pregnancy tests are failing us. I guess my recommendation to all in this place is go get a blood test. That's what I am going to do Monday. If you don't have insurance there are programs in the community like Planned Parenthood to help you. Or you can usually walk into your dr's office or make an apt for a pregnancy test. Good luck as we all cross our fingers in hope!

As I read all of these little blurbs I really feel at ease.  I'm 25 yrs old and think that I may be pregnant.  My last period occurred on Jan 27th, and I am usually about 23 day cycle, I could almost set my watch to when I would get my period,( I have not been under any stress or on any meds to mess around with my cycle.)  However, it is now March 10th, still with no period, no spotting, a few days I thought that I was gettin my period but when I went to the washroom NOTHING.  I've done 2 HPT and both came back negative, I have had some pregnancy symptoms, extremely tender breasts,(my nipples are hard constantly, I was always the kinda person who only had hard nipples when I was cold) lower back pain, nausea sometimes with vomitting and sometimes without.  I've never been pregnant before so I'm not sure what it would feel like, but by the sounds of things on here it doesn't much matter if you have been or not.  Just my luck I have my yearly dr. appt this week(thursday) so HOPEFULLY I will know more then.  Thanks for the help everyone,

I was also in this situation 2 year before. I took a HPT 3 days after I missed my period and it was negative. I did a blood test 2 days after and it came out positive. I took HPT after getting blood test report(its 7 days after I missed my period ) and it was positive.
Nothing to worry or tensed about. Urine pregnancy tests may not detect low levels of HCG hormone , but it can be detected by a blood test.

Hi!! I love this site! Lets see, I'm a regular 28day cycle...and im almost always stressed so thats never really been a factor in my menstrual cycle. However, last month my period came 4 days early and lasted 7 days!! I've never been early in my life (I'm 28) and my periods have never ever lasted longer than 5 days. Also, two weeks to the day before my period started, I spotted. And continued to spot maybe 3-4 times up until my early period started. I took HPT two days after the first spotting (negative), took another HPT two days after my abnormally long and early period (negative)...now this I month I was due to start my period two days ago. Took HPT this morning and got the lightest negative line I've ever seen. My symptoms include mild cramping, fatigue, shortness of breath, lower back pain when I'm sitting, and I'm freakin emotional!!! I feel slightly bloated and have more gas than I care to admit. Another weird symptom is a weird taste in my mouth. Has anyone experienced that??? Recently divorced and never got PG by ex, although we used no protection. But I've got a new BF and I've heard that there are fertility compatability issues??????? Anyhow, my story is similar to many on this site and it's simply frustrating to deal day in and day out with the suspense of it all.

I'm 24 and I've been married 5 and 1/2 years.  I've never been pregnant and I've been off birth control for 3 years.  In April my husband and I had sex during my ovulation window.  My rag was due on May 17 and I still haven't had it.  I've had two negative urine tests.  The doctor's office has me schedueled for a pap next month and I'm told to basically wait another week for the tide.  If it doesn't come, I'm to return for another urine test.  Has any one heard of someone not showing up on a urine test at all?

you need to be at least 2 weeks late on your period for a urin test to come out correctly. but my frineds urin test didnt show pregnnat until she was six months pregnant. mine showed negative for both pregnancies until two weeks after a missed period. then it showed positive. if you cant wait, you can do a blood test and find out now!

Okay, please help, any advice would be appreciated.  I am currently breastfeeding my 19 month old only in the am and at bedtime.  Despite breastfeeding, I have still had regular periods, (within a day or two) since he was 9 months old.  I was 13 days late and then, started bleeding.  I am confused about the fact that I have had severe nausea, frequent urination. Before I started, I had taken 3 HPT's with neg results.  However, despited the fact that I believe I have started my period, I am still experiencing nausea.  I am so confused, what is going on?

i kept getting neg results until last week i was 18 days late and finally got the positives, then the day after i started bleeding really heavily there were blood clots too so i knew i was having a miscarriage, the thing is just because your hcg hormone is not high enough it does not mean your not pregnant, like i say it took me till 18 days late to get a pos result.... so the chances are more like missed miscarriage.....

I have swollen breasts and felt nauseous and dizzy and pee often. Does it seem like I am pregnant? Im not sure what to think and I am on medication.

Hello. I am now 14 days late.  I have NEVER missed a period and I have always been regular except once when I was prego years ago (that ended in miscarriage).  I have been on the pill for 5 years.  During the third week of active pills I missed 2 and doubled up.  I can not tell you how many times I have done this and it has never caused me to skip.  If anything it caused me to bleed early. Took a blood test at 7 days late. Negative.  On Monday had bloodwork for a thyroid problem.  Don't know yet.

I want to thank the ladies who post, especially those who follow up.  I have found this site to be comforting, especially since I can not stop wondering what is up with my body.  The midwife I saw was frustrating.  She acted like my head was making all this happen and I wanted to scream at her I WASN"T TRYING TO GET PREGNANT! At this point I want 1 of 3 things to happen: get my period, find out I have a hyper thyroid, or get a positive.  I'll be happy with any of those three.  Good luck and I hope you all get the answers you want.  Please keep us updated.

It sounds like you are.  Based on my research, the light pink spotting could be implementation bleeding.  Try getting a blood test. My last period is 9/22.  IF my thyroid results are normal I am taking another HPT test again.  I have been told by my sisters that HPT can take awhile.

so here's the deal: back in december, i took the emergency contraceptive pill b/c my b/f and i are not looking to become parents any time soon. i had two more periods during that month. seriously i pretty much bled the whole month [sorry to be gruesome]. so when i didn't start my "normal" cycle at the beginning of january, i wasn't very concerned at all. well now it's almost half-way through february and i still have no sign of the period. i had cramping for one day around the time when i should've started in february. i've taken two home pregnancy tests and both have come back negative. not really experiencing other prego symptoms other than some serious heartburn in the last few days and slight nausea from time to time. i have been pretty stressed at work, and now over all this hoping i'm not pregnant yet stuff. so i don't know what to do, but i'm pretty terrified and wishing i would just have my period and be done with it! oh btw i'm 25 and usually have a very consistent cycle as well. i plan on taking another test soon, but i'm really getting worried. i realize that soon i should make a doc appt ... i don't really know what i expected from this posting, but that's my story. maybe i'm hoping that someone will tell me that it's possible that the "morning after" pill is still messing with my hormones and that my period is still likely to arrive any day now? is that a feasible option, or am i likely just fooling myself?

I was recently on the pill but for only two months. I got my period on January 25th...after i was done my period i had sex with my boyfriend. On the Sunday after i got my period I took one pill, but forgot to keep taking them cause i was pretty busy that week, so by the time I noticed it was too late to keep taking the pills. I had sex with my boyfriend around the time i was about to start my pills again, but didnt basically. I've had some brownish spotting, that didn't even last a day. I was suppose to get my period around the 16th, but it's now the 28th and i still have yet to get it. Im never late...if anything im always a day early. I have been nauseous, really really tired, peeing more, cramps for the last week but no period, alittle moody, an increase in discharge (i barely get it normally)...could I be pregnant? I am 29, and have very regular 28-day cycles working like a clock work. Last period was on 23/May. I have been ttc for 4 months, this month I took clomid (day 5-9). I am not sure when I ovulated, but 8 days before my expected period, I had light pink-brown spotting which lasted a day, I suspected this to be implantation bleeding. I am now 3 days late for my period. Since I have been taking prenatal vitamins for a long time, I do not have fatigue or nausea, but I do tend to take afternoon naps, and pee more often. Other than that, I am hungry very frequently and feel full immediately after eating a little.
Both hpt and blood test done today came negative.
But I have never been late for my period. Could this be a side-effect of clomid?

Hi, I'm 29 years old and happily married.  We are not been trying to get pregnant. However,  I have been off the pill for almost 2 years now, but we do use condoms religiously.  My period is now 22 days late.  My whole life I've been like clockwork between 28-30 days, never going over 30.  I feel very nauseous, especially in the morning.  And never really feel like eating.  I've actually lost 15 lbs.  I have also been very moody/emotional.  I took 2 HPT which were neg, and finally went and had a blood test while I was 2 weeks late. I'm in a similar situation.  I'm 29, also happily married.  I went off the pill four years ago... we haven't really been TRYING but we are not preventing either.  We just figured that if it was meant to be, then we would have children.  For the last few years we started thinking maybe we couldn't conceive and just kinda gave up on the idea that we might become pregnant.  Now my AF is 3 weeks late.  I am never late.  I have a 24-28 day cycle.  Oh actually I was late once, but there was a crisis happening in my family and I know it was caused by stress.  I'm not stressed now.  I took two HPT's one at 7 days late and one at 10.  Both negative.  I went to the doctor and did a blood test.  It was also negative.  I was told that it is normal to skip a period once in a while.  So now I have to wait and see if I skip my next period which would be next week.  If it doesn't come then I will get another blood test done.  This is very frustrating.  I just want to know what is going on with my body.  If I'm pregnant I'll be happy, if I'm not pregnant I"ll be happy too, but I'm worried that there is something wrong with me.  I've had my thyroid tested in the past few months, so I know it's not that.  What else can it be?

I recently went off the pill in early June after being on it for a year and a half (since I had my son).  In the past, my periods were abnormal without being on the pill to regulate them.  While on the pill, my periods came and went on schedule.  Since going off in early June to get pregnant, it took seven weeks to get my period.  That said, it has been seven weeks and five days since the last period.  I have taken 2 tests recently and both have been negative.  The only stympton of pregnancy that I have is being tired and there are no regular period symptoms I usually encounter.  It is worth mentioning that it took some time in the past for my hormone levels to indicate that I was indeed pregnant.  I went in for an ultrasound thinking I was eight weeks pregnant and found out I was 13.  Any advice??

I had the same a few years a go and because i got so excited I started to find things that meant I was pregnant. I was regular for years but then suddenly I missed a period. I wasnt pregnant, it was random. If you keep winding yourself up about it then it will make it happen again. Relax and leave it til next month if u miss again then try another test

Hey girls, I would love to hear from some of you who really went through this. I will sure give us a little hope. I am TTC and just like most of you, I am very regular. Now I am 3 days late, have been having a lot of nausea, expanded nipples and cramps. On the day I was supposed to get my period, I had a lot of period symptoms, which just went away after 2 days. So I practically feel as if I had already had my period and it passed. Of and yeah, 2 negative urine pregnancy tests(early morning urine)....has anyone experienced this???
