Help Please! Firefox Question

Hi Everyone,

Several months ago I downloaded Firefox 3.6.  I loved it and especially liked the fact two tabs could be open at the same time, but I did something wrong and it crashed.  At the time of the crash I had two tabs open...one here at MH and the other was a music site.  I went into my Control Panel and uninstalled Firefox.

Today, I download Firefox again and it's like it was never uninstalled.  My tabs from several months ago were still there, history still there and the pages won't fully load just like when it crashed.

Can anyone give me some insight to what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks so much!!!

Hey Rory, just to let you know we figured out how to search files for Firefox and Mozilla and deleted what we could back in Feb.  Today, I tried downloading Firefox again and it works fine so wanted to thank you very very much for your help!!! :)

Thanks so much, Rory!!  You explained that really well, and my husband and I tried to follow your instructions, but unfortunately we couldn't find "applications" and neither one of us really knows what we're doing so we're afraid to start messing around.  I figured the program was somehow still in the computer since that's the only thing that makes sense, but we weren't able to find a single file that said Mozilla or Firefox.  We spent a good hour looking too.  Now I would imagine it's taking up space somewhere which is too bad as we don't have much space left in the first place.

I may check out the SeaMonkey browser though..

Thank you!  That thought crossed my mind.  Only thing is, I wasn't downloading music.  I found this site called Pandora Radio and you can make your own stations so to speak and just listen to endless music.  That's what I had going, but what I noticed was some very lively ads were showing up that day and I think I opened one by mistake.  The crash seemed to happen after that.  Firefox seemed to be working fine up to that point.  Nothing else seems to be affected though.  Just can't use Firefox anymore even though I uninstalled it and reinstalled.  That's what I don't get.

So maybe a virus is blocking Firefox specifically?

If you downloaded music that day, my guess is that your computer got a virus from doing that. Music downloading is among the primary causes of viruses and subsequent crashes. I think that you have a virus issue; and not a browser issue.

That's okay.  I really appreciate you trying to help.  The Google Chrome was slowing down too just like IE6 I came through on right now.  It might have something to do with my computer.  It SAYS we have lots of space, but only a little sliver shows on the pie thing.  I dont know :(

iam1butterfly....I had music playing on one tab and was here at MH on the other and my computer was really starting to slow down and suddenly it crashed, that's all I remember and yes, it's like something is disrupting the upload but I don't know enough about all this to begin to know what.

Opus...I Was able to remove Firefox from the control panel back then.  I removed it yesterday too after downloading it and finding out it wouldn't work.  No problem with that.  I just thought after 6mos I would try it again, but it acts like I never removed it, remembers my history and my tabs and won't load the pages here completely.  I really liked it too.  Pretty simple.

I don't understand why the toolbar wasn't there, either.  I didn't have to do ANYTHING.  It was *ALL* there when I installed it....  Yikes, I wish I was more help.  I am still going between Safari and Google Chrome, deciding which I like better....

Good luck!

What opus88 said I've heard a LOT of lately....folks typing along, and POOF!  MH disappears.  Just a thought...

just a comment, I use firefox all the time and yesterday I had the same thing happen, MH just disappeared from my screen.! I rebooted my computer and when I tried again MH was again able to load and run properly....I'm not sure if it was a problem with firefox or MH?
as far as removing firefox I can't answer that question...did you go through your 'control panel?
I too have problems with removing some programs other than firefox and don't know why??

I suspect that you have a program that's conflicting with the Firefox and disrupting the uploads. Did you remember if you downloaded or installed a new program around the time when the crash occurred?

Thanks, twehner!  I took your suggestion and downloaded Google Chrome, but oh my, I'm so confused.  Up top there's nothing.  No tools, edit, help...none of that.  No tool bar (I believe it's called) whatsoever.  As you can see, I don't really know what I'm doing.  I'm trying to teach myself.   At the very least in need spell check.  Ugh...my brain's starting to hurt lol...

I'm sure able to type fast though with GC.  No stuttering like with IE6.  IE6 doesn't offer the multiple tab thing either and if it does, I haven't found it.

I'm still curious to know why even though I uninstalled Firefox months ago, it acts like I never left!?

I quit using Firefox a long time ago.  My son turned me onto Google Chrome.  Have you thought of trying that?  I can have TONS of tabs open at the same time, but I could have that with Safari, too....

I haven't used Firefox in so long, that I am sorry that I can't help you....I'm sorry.
