The guys I know refer to "gone fishing" as looking for a woman to "hook up" with.
Hmmm .. I always thought it meant taking a "siesta" or "break" .. as in on vacation or away for a period of time and it 'feels good" to be away.

When someone passes away, the person who died or a family member will sometimes put "gone fishing" on their gravestone, just a favorite pastime that not everyone has time to do enough of in life. That's the best way I can explain it. It doesn't mean that someone died, but you can see it in graveyards. I think its cute and shows the person had a sense of humor. Hope this helps you!
I always took it to mean getting out of the way, as in a stressful situation, but I may have it wrong, its an American term I think ...
