post menopause in less than 12 months?

50 years old, only missed two periods, but dr says I'm post menopausal due to FSH of 109 and estrogen at 15.  Had heavy bleeding so went in for ultrasound and D & C last week.  Waiting on results.  Question:  Can I be post menopausal based on hormone numbers WITHOUT having missed 12 periods?

Thank you for your response!  Results of the D&C is, indeed, endrometrial  Hyperplasia without atypia.  I am going in today for to discuss treatment options.  I've been reading about progesterone supplements and/or ablation, but will hear what my doctor says.

Thank you again!

Hi,
As your hormone reports do not correlate with the clinical presentation, the report of D&C will be of help. Ideally to label it as menopause it is necessary to have cessation of menses for 12 months. However this may not be the case when there is endometrial hyperplasia or other endometrial issues. Hope this helps.
Take care and good luck.
