Herpes

Hi I had sores down below and went to the doctors who said it looked / sounded like herpes and she gave me antibiotics which cleared it up - she took bloods to test for it herpes 1 & 2 but it come back negative just wondering what else this could have been? This was 8 months ago now and I haven't had any sores since - just bugging me as to what it could have been. (I'm female)

Thanks

At this point, both you and your partner should both seek out type specific herpes igg blood tests to make sure herpes was not the cause of your symptoms. If it was a recently acquired herpes infection for you, the blood testing your provider did was done too early. Did they by chance do a lesion culture of your symptoms when you had them? Also do you recall if it was an antibiotic or an antiviral like acyclovir or valtrex that you were given?

Did you have another partner that you contracted chlamydia around this same time?

Apparently there are many different things that cause different types of sores in the genital area but if they cleared up with antibiotics, that's not herpes.  Unfortunately, I would have to agree with you about your boyfriend as the chlamydia had to come from one of you.  Good luck!

Antibiotics don't cure viral infections (unfortunately), so if your symptoms went away with the medication, they were caused by the chlamydia, which is good!

Herpes remain dormant for years. It may flare up again. If the test is right you have nothing to worry.Finding the reason for the rash will be difficult after 8 months.
