Would like input from anyone who has had a vasectomy.

by jociadam, Apr 30, 2007 12:00AM
I am 39 and  my husband is 37.  We have two boys, aged 14 and 8, and just two weeks ago, we had a new baby daughter, which was very unplanned.  I was on the pill when I got pregnant and now due to recent health problems, I can't get my tubes tied or go back on the pill.  (I developed pulmonary emboli this past week (clots in the lungs) which occurred after delivery.)  My husband said he will consider getting a vasectomy, but he hates getting shots.  Throw in the fact that you are talking about cutting on a very sensitive part of the body, and he is less than thrilled.  When the health nurse where we work gives TB skin tests and flu shots, she literally has to chase after him for two or three days to get him his; that is how bad he hates needles.  I was just wanting to know a first-hand experience from someone who has been through it....the ins and outs.  Was it very painful afterward?  Would you do it again?  Was it affective as a method of birth control?  Any information I can give him will be more than helpful.  Thanks in advance.

Virtually painless and I had it done in the 70s before all of the newer procedures.  Tell him to "man up" and have it done.
