2 week migraine

2 week migraine

I thought this was a migraine but 2 weeks later and I'm still hurting. The pain is always there; the intensiity comes in waves and sometime I feel like I'd like to just remove the back of my head, my forehead or my right cheekbone altogether. And sometimes my eyes feel very tired or hot or empty, as strange as that sounds, especially my right eye. I feel sometimes like my nasal passages are draining quietly too.

I've tried to describe this to people and to my doctor but as close as I can get to how I feel inside is that I feel like a heavy wet log of wood that someone is trying to splinter. I just don't feel right even besides the pain. Nothing seems to help for long or very much. I went to the ER and they did a CT scan and didn't see anything. they just said it was an atypical migraine and gave me some IV meds of benadryl, compazine and butalbital. Then a butalbital and compazine script to use later. It doesn't help tremendously and I've only used it twice since the ER visit. I'm very wary of taking it too often. I have hyrdrocodone from my neuro and it helps for a short period of time but I alwsy need a second dose and I don't like to take it b/c the second dose makes me jittery, so I even try to resist the first dose.

I have MS but my neuro did an MRI and I have no new lesions and no enhanced lesions, so it's not a relapse. She's giving me Stadol tonight to try for the first time, hoping we can knock this one out. I am trying Zonegran as a preventative but haven't been on it long. I had a bad reaction to Depakote so I can't take that. The triptans don't work for me at all.

I just want this to stop and to feel normal again. Anyone had any luck with Stadol? I feel like a different person. I don't wnat to leave the house, much less my room lately.  I just don't know when the pain is going to intensify and take me down.

Hi,
How are you? It is good that the Ct scan was normal. It could indeed be due to primary headaches such as migraine or cluster headache.  Cluster headache usually presents with eye pain, tearing of the eye, nose congestion, flushing of face and pain that frequently develops during sleep and may last for several hours. The attacks occur every day for weeks then usually disappear. Have this checked by your doctor or be referred to an neurologist for proper management. Take care and regards.
