Migraine triggered after taking wild yam extract

A while back I was taking wild yam cream ( progesterone) and applying it to my skin, in hopes of helping my PMS. I began to get hot flashes, and feeling sick after a week of taking it. I was in my twenties. I then got the migraine aura, and got an excruciating headache with stomachache. This was my only real migraine and I didn't get the full spectrum migraine after that...

Why would the cream trigger this?

Hormones, or change in hormones, can trigger migraine. Even in normally non-migraine patients... especially in women. This has been shown in women who never get migraines, go on the birth control pill, get migraines, go off the birth control pill, and then never get migraines again. Also, sometimes some women who do not suffer from migraines will get migraines only when they are pregnant and no other time... and, often, women who do suffer from migraines will never get another migraine after they go through menopause. So... hormones and migraines go hand-in-hand. This sounds like it could be similar to non-migraine women going on the birth control pill and then getting migraines, going off the birth control pill and then never getting migraines again.
