Saturday's Topic: Sinusitis related headache

Hello everyone!

Today, I will be linking you to a variety of resources on MedHelp that explore both sinusitis and the types of headaches that sinusitis can cause.

Sinusitis is either acute or chronic inflammation of the sinuses that can be caused by allergies or infections. Sometimes sinusitis can be painful and can lead to a condition that is known as sinusitis related headache.

Information on Acute Sinusitis: http://www.medhelp.org/medical-information/show/495

Information on Chronic Sinusitis: http://www.medhelp.org/medical-information/show/496/Sinusitis---chronic

Information on how to treat Sinusitis: http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Ear%20Nose%20and%20Throat/Ways-to-help-rhinitis-or-chronic-sinusitis/show/8?cid=59

If you suffer from acute or chronic allergy symptoms as well as your headaches, I would like to introduce you to another community here on MedHelp that may be as equally helpful to you, the community is the Allergy Community. Joining this community may be helpful for you in discovering prevention methods which will help you control your sinusitis related headaches: http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Allergy/show/67

Since prevention is such a major part of treating most headache types, an excellent tool in the management of headaches is a headache journal or a headache diary. Noting when we get our headaches allows us to discover patterns in our headache pathology, and being away of these patterns can better help us to practice trigger avoidance. Medhelp has a useful online tracker that you can use to track your sinusitis related headaches: http://www.medhelp.org/user_trackers/new?personal_page_id=413710&type=Migraine

I would also like to suggest that if you have not been diagnosed by a doctor recently (in the last 5 years) for sinusitis related headaches, that it might be a good idea for you to go back to your doctor to confirm the diagnosis. Recently scientists and doctors have discovered that many so-called sinus headaches are not sinus headaches at all, but are in fact migraine headaches. If you have a migraine headaches, then you probably need a migraine medication as opposed to a sinus-related medication. So, if your diagnosis was made a long time ago, or if you made the diagnosis yourself, then it is important to go to a doctor to get your diagnosis confirmed. In most situations, a sinus headache will turn out to be a migraine headache and migraine headaches require prescription migraine medication. True sinusitis related headaches are rare, although they do exist and often will require a physicians treatment.

I hope that the information presented today was both interesting and useful! If you have any ideas for other topics of the day, please send me a private message or leave a note on my profile! Thanks!
