Withdrawals - HELP!

I feel horrible today. I went to my primary dr today and I told him that i had to get off these fioricets that I've been taking for like 25 yrs. My body was used to taking 8-12 pills a day most times. So 8 days ago, I started taking 2 pills a day, to wein off of them. So he suggests to me that starting tonight, to take 1 pills for a week and then I should be fine. Is this true???? Because I'm reading alot that this pill is lethal, dangerous when stopping, etc., and I just don't know what to do. I have an appt. to see a neurologist, but that's not until 12/10th....someone PLEASE let me know something!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
