I started taking Topamax...or Dopamax as I call it..2 years ago..the only side effects I have is verbal impairment or a mild form of aphasia. I have to draw things as I can't think of nouns in a sentence. Writing isn't too bad, but speaking is a challenge. I only take 100mg. At first I lost 5 lbs and the colas, carbonated pop, etc tasted weird but I got used to it. Then the weight went back on and then some. And the headaches are coming back now. So now I'm not sure what to do.

I have been on topamax for three years 75mg at night. It has been great.Sometimes I get headaches and take Imitrex.I have cervical straightening and had disc surgery(two level)I also take neurontin and klonopin. But the topamax is terrific for migraines. If your insurance will pay for botox that is also good.Check your neck for disc and cervical problems.Good luck!!

Hi
There is a possibility of development of acute psychotic symptoms in persons on topiramate. Topiramate may cause agitation and emotional lability / abnormal behaviour, depression, ataxia, impaired concentration , confusion, auditory and visual hallucinations, fatigue, and abnormal thinking .They may be seen in cases of overdose and sometimes even with normal doses.
The most common side effects seen during clinical trials of topamax in preventing frequently recurring migraines were tiredness, pins and needles in the fingers and toes, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, indigestion, dry mouth, weight losst, decrease in appetite, drowsiness, forgetfulness, difficulty with concentration or attention, difficulty in sleeping (insomnia), mood swings, depression, changes in taste and vision disorders. The weight loss experienced with this drug is usually dose dependent.
You should discuss with your doctor about your concern. He will perhaps be able to judge which treatment would suit you the best.
Take care

I was on Topamax about 2 yrs a go to help crave my munchies from xanax and control my weight, it was 100 mg once a day.  i went off it when I stopped the xanax.  About 2 weeks ago my neurologist out me back on it for headaches at 25 mg twice a day and i haven't had any agitation but i do get the nervousness a bit, i think with time it went away.  It is a great medication try to stick with it!

Hi!  I had the agitation, dizziness, numbness, etc.  as far as side effects go.  Good news is that I have been on Topamax for over six months now and very happy with it.  My side effects went away probably almost after a month.  I am up to 75mgs.  I noticed that when I changed dosage levels or missed a dosage, that affected the side effects.   So that could be part of the reason.  Also, might it help if change the time of day you take it?  For me, I do better now taking it at night.  Differs with each person though.  Good luck!

Hi,

Topamax is not known to cause agitation but can cause confusion, dizziness, memory problems and sleep disturbances. Do you have any other symptoms?
Please watch out for the side effects and let your doctor know imediately when you get one. Good luck!

Yes! Every person reacts differently to meds. Give it some time it might subside.
