Thank you all! Yes, my son too has had the terrible headaches with it, he is prone to them anyway. Today I think his fever is down to a low grade which is good.
Glad for the update about rebound headaches. I have to be careful of OTC meds and my other migraine meds, as they both cause rebound headaches for me. So after about 3 I have to find something else to use.
I don't know about for others, but I am thrilled the calcium channel blocker Diltiazem CD is working for me. No other preventatives were.
Sorry you guys are sick too, pneumonia is what they worry about with this H1N1, so take care. Lots of fluids, 10---10oz glasses of water a day. Hang in there everyone.
Tracy
I am sorry to hear that you got H1N1... and that your son got it too! Having to look after someone when you're sick too is hard! I hope you feel better soon.
I'm glad to hear that your headaches are responding to the Calcium Channel Blocker... I'm definitely going to ask my Neurologist about these now! I hope that they keep responding to the medication. Keep us updated... but don't feel obligated to keep us posted right now! Just focus on getting over the flu and taking care of yourself and your family right now!! Looking after yourself and your family is the most important thing! We all understand!
Get lots of rest and drink lots... but you know that of course! Oh, and, I read an article once that was on a study about OTC medications and about how they cause rebound headaches... well, I know a lot of us don't use OTC pain killers because we try to avoid rebound headaches... BUT! This article that I read said that if you use OTC pain medications (example: aspirin, but never aspirin if it is for a child, or advil or tylenol) infrequently, like once and awhile, for non-headache reasons, like if you are trying to reduce a fever or help general body aches and pains of a flu... then the OTC pain medication will NOT cause a rebound headache!
So... the rest of this is to everyone...
Hi Everyone!
So, I think that during this nasty cold and flu season, it is probably safe for most of us to take one or two OTC pain medication pills if we are using it specifically to reduce a high fever or to help with a non-headache flu symptom... and I don't think we have to worry about the OTC medication trigger a migraine. I think the only time one of us would have to worry about OTC pain medication triggering a migraine in such a scenario is if they had noticed a direct causal relationship between such medications and their headaches on their migraine trackers (like, take said medication and get a headache in the same way you would with other triggers, in which case wise to always avoid when possible). Best to check with your Neurologists to be sure on this one... but, just wanted to throw that possibility out there so people didn't feel like they were completely stuck being unable to treat a fever at home, check with your doctor first though before trying!
im sorry that both you and your son is sick. i know what you are going threw. my son has it to and the doc thinks may have nemonia cant spell lol. not being able to leave home will drive you crazy. i have been home bound for 7 days now . my son has been having bad bad headaches and joint pain. i hope you and your son are feeling better.
