Am I miscarrying?

Hi currently I should be 7 weeks and 6 days pregnant.  I am scheduled for my second u/s tomorrow and I am a bit nervous.  Early in my pregnancy we checked my hcg levels and they were doubling accordingly.  My progesterone was a little low so they placed me on 100mg of progesterone.  I went into the ER last night with some back pain and what had started as bleeding that turned into spotting, that turned into no bleeding at all.  They ran my hcg level and it was at 7200 is this low for almost 8 weeks pregnant.  I just miscarried in September of this year and I am really nervous about this pregnancy.  I have an u/s tomorrow to confirm if there is a baby and a heart beat, the ultrasound that I had a 6 weeks showed a gestational sac and a yolk sac but no baby yet.

Hi there.  I'm sorry your going through such a scary time.  I know, seeing bleeding is terrifying.

Unfortunately there is no way to know for certain without an ultrasound.  HCG levels really don't tell you much at this stage.  Doubling time is no longer 48 to 72 hours, and the normal range is huge.  I am so glad you have an ultrasound tomorrow and do not have to wait.  At 7w6d, a fetal heartbeat should be seen and they will be better able to tell you what is going on.

Bleeding can happen in normal healthy pregnancies as well as pending losses.  I can tell you that the fact that it has slowed to spotting, then almost gone is a good thing.  Most of the time during a loss it starts slow, then gradually gets worse.  If it had been a miscarriage, I can guarantee you would still have bleeding.  Typically you bleed for about a week after passing the sac, etc.

Please let us know how you are doing, and I will keep you in my thoughts.  Good luck tomorrow.
