I went to my OB/GYN the other day excited to see the first ultrasound of my baby. The doctor did a vaginal ultrasound and said that the baby was smaller than it should be and the heartbeat was faint. About 20 seconds later he said that there was no heartbeat. The ultrasound took place for a total of two and a half minutes. After this, he wrote me a prescription for a medication that will help make the baby "pass", along with a referral for another ultrasound by a different place. I am extremely confused and upset. My boyfriend works as a pharmacy tech and said that the prescription he gave me, Cytotec, was for a medicine for gastric ulcers. I did more research about the medicine and read many warnings about it. I have been prescribed this for an "off label" use and I am frankly not happy. How can there be a heartbeat, and twenty seconds later not be one?
I am 20 years old and I feel this doctor suspected me to be ignorant due to my age. Has anyone had a similar experience? Any experience with this medicine? It doesn't seem safe to me, and something definitely seems wrong...f
