Blood Type a Factor???

I posted my question earlier, but didn't get a response, so I'll try again.  I'm 32 years old/him 36.  My husband I and are ready to try again and I was wondering if you know if blood type for mother / father would affect the chances of being able to carry a baby successfully to full term vs. a miscarriage/stillborn?  Am I at greater risk for the chance of a miscarriage or stillborn with different blood types?  I am B- and my husband is A+..  If so, is there anything we should do?  Any tests? etc.

A bit of my history:

*miscarriage at approx. 2 months in May '07  had a rhogam shot immediately after...
*stillborn at approx. 5.5 - 6 months in Nov. '08  had a rhogam shot immediately after delivery..didn't make the 24 wk rhogam shot date..

Thank you,
Steph.

Hi, I am so sorry about your loss. I am  AB (-) and my husband is A(+), when I had a d&C in February, I asked if my blood type caused for my m/c, dr said no, it wouldn't be the problem. After my d&C I got anti d.

Hi i have 2 children. My blood type is RH Negative and my husbands in Positive. Because i have the Negative blood type whenever i have a bleed during pregnancy i have to have an injection called the anti d (here in NZ that's what it is called)  also once my babies were born they had to check the babies blood type and if the baby was Positive blood type i also needed the anti d injection within 72 hrs of the baby being born. I had to have that done with my first child as he was positive but because my daughter was Negative blood type i didn't. You need this anti d injection to stop your body producing anti bodies so that the anti bodies wont attack any future pregnacies/fetus if the baby is Postive blood type if you have a bleed.
I had a m/c in Oct last year so i had to have the anti d injection again just incase that baby was Positive blood type. I am now 15 wks preg again and all seems to be going well.
Not sure if this is what could be happening to you but because your blood type is Negative it could be possible that you have anti bodies attacking your unborn fetus. Perhaps run it past your doc.
Hope this helps.

Blood types are not a factor for miscarriages/stillborn.  I asked my doc this past week when I had a miscarriage then a d&c.  I have had a total of 3 miscarriages...2 started naturally and the third started naturally but then had miscarriage.  The only thing that plays a factor is the Rh Factor.  You since you have the - behind the B are Rh -.  Since you had the shot you should be fine to carry a baby.  It's only if you are - and you don't get the shot...is it a chance to hurt the baby.  I am in anatomy and we were talking about blood tonight...I just learned the whole Rh thing.  If you have any questions please feel free to send me a message.

Thank you ladies for your responses!  We did not undergo an autopsy on the baby and nobody knew the cause and will never know.  My ob/gyn never gave us a reason for the stillborn, she said it could have been a cord accident.  She knows of both our blood types.  We'll, I'll just have to remain positive and look towards the future.

Thanks for your support once again.

Steph, I would have to agree with Natalie, I don't believe that b/t is a factor. Your Dr. should know both your b/t's, did he/she mention any concerns? It can't hurt to ask. I wish you the best and hope that all goes well.................Lori

Also I wanted to say I am very sorry for your losses. I did look blood type/miscarriage up and the only thing I found was the rh factor can cause m/c if not detected. I would ask your dr. for a specific answer. Has your dr done any testing as to why your baby was still born? I know that is such a difficult thing to go through. I was 16w5d when I was told our baby lost life at 12w5d. I still have no clear-cut answers as to why. I was told that most m/c are due to chromosomal abnormalities.
There may be some women on this forum that will have a better answer for you but I at least wanted to let you know I'm sorry for what you've had to go through.

Steph-I don't know for sure but I don't think the blood type would be a factor. Have you asked your dr about this? Sorry I couldn't be of much help but I hope you get some answers soon. Take care
