I forgot to mention to DEFINITELY have your Thyroid tested. Hypothyroidism is a cause of miscarriage and weight gain.
I agree with the posts above. They should do blood test. Although, as it is often the case wirth progesterone, blood test is not a reliable measure(because Prog. fluctuates alot). Usually doctors just prescribe the progesterone if they have reasons to believe that it is low. With ultrasound, they may have detected cycsts on your ovaries, which can suggest PCOS and hence hormonal imbalance. do you have hairloss or irregular periods? spotting in between periods? these are definitely a sign of loa progesteron.
In any case, to rule out other hormonal imbalance your doctor shoudl test your estradiol(sp?), FSH (day 3 test), prolactine,... and others which I dont know.
I am having some hormonal imbalance and have gone through 2 miscarriages, I will let you know if i find any more info.
Best of lucks,

I'd double check and get more details. There are so many hormones at play in a pregnancy that the treatment would be really different based on what is going on with your body. I have some signs of PCOS so my Dr routinely puts me on progesterone suppositories in the second half of my cycle. Being even a bit over weight can also make your hormones a little wonky. May be a follow-up discussion with your Dr can give you enough details & a plan of attack to set things right before you try again...
I don't understand how they can diagnose a hormonal imbalance from a u/s? Did your dr do any bloodwork to come to that conclusion?
