Has anyone had a partial molar pregnancy?

I was just told I had a partial molar pregnancy and that I am to have hcg levels checked weekly for 6 months.  Please is anyone has had this, I would love to know what this is about and what to expect.

I had one last year, except it was a full molar pregnancy and I had to get my levels checked every week.  When they didn't go down naturally I was then referred to an oncologist.  It had turned into Gestational Trophoblastic Disease in which a part of the placenta had turned into a tumor.  This type of tumor can spread fast so I had to get on weekly shots of chemotherapy -no side effects though!  After 5 months of these shots my hcg levels finally fell to zero.  The doctor has told me to wait one year before getting pregnant from the time my levels fell to zero because there is less of a chance of it happening again.  So, if your doctor tells you to wait 6months or so, then you really should-it's very important.  Mine is a rare occurence and the majority of people who have a partial molar -their levels go down naturally.  Good luck to you and remember, it could be a lot worse!

Thanks so much for responding.  Did you feel different?  I feel different after this d and c. I had a miscarriage in June and I felt a whole lot different then than I do know.  My uterus feels still a little firm, if that makes sense.  My first period also lasted 1.5 weeks which never happens.  I see the dr. today and have been very apprehensive.  If this was a molar pregnancy, it had to have been a partial one because I did have a fetus because we saw it's heartbeat(167) and it measured correct at 8.5 weeks.  Then it suddenly died.  Did you get pregnant since then?  How are you feeling now?

I didn't feel any different during the whole ordeal which is good I guess.  II had to have a d & c too but didn't feel different after that either.  t was all hard to believe since I didn't have any symptoms of miscarriage.  I went in for an u/s at 10 weeks (my pregnancy symptoms had disappeared the week before but I didn't think anything of it) and there was no heartbeat or fetus, just an empty sac.  I have to wait until July to try again so I'm just trying to be patient!  Yours definately sounds like a partial molar.  As long as your hcg levels are dropping on their own then you are in the clear.  I've heard if you have a partial molar you should wait 6 months and for a full molar then 1 year.

Thanks again for responding. I bet it is difficult for you to be waiting.  I know it was hard just waiting the couple of months after the d and c.  I am older(39) and so I know waiting is not great for for me.  I am going to the dr. today and will find out more. I am scared.  I will let you know what happens.  I wish you the best.  It seems like you are doing very well.  I am happy for  you. :)

i had a partial molor pregnancy in march of last year. i had my dnc done and i had my HGC levels checked once a week for a month after they were back  down to normal they were checked once a month for a year. the reason they do this is to check the HCG level to  make sure they got everything out. in a case if they missed a microscopic piece and that piece stared growing againit could turn into cancer. the dr will ask you to be on some form of birth control for a year after the pregnancy has ended this again to make sure the levels stay the same and you do no get pregnant again within the year mark. i hpe my info was helpful.
